Hotmail exchange...
« on: May 19, 2014, 12:35:27 am »
Well folks this will look like a absolute newbie question.
I never used Exchange in my life, more i did not even informed myself what exactly it is.
So here we go....
I have beside my main Gmail accounts a little wasted but still used hotmail.com account. POP3 is old and does not sync folders, IMAP from hotmail is crap, so i tried to set up Exchange.
I tried first with the native Android email app by adding a Cooperative account in settings. Everything works flawless with the native Android email app, but i can not get it to work with AM using the same settings.
Am i missing something or understanding something wrong?

Thanks for clarifying and help.

As I'd mentioned before, Aqua uses the EWS network protocol to connect to Exchange servers.

It does not support ActiveSync, the other Exchange network protocol, because of licensing complications.

Most corporate servers support both EWS and ActiveSync. Mail Droid (which is pretty popular) uses EWS.

However... Hotmail does not. It only supports ActiveSync.

"Standard" mail apps that come preinstalled, and some third party ones, are from companies that have ActiveSync licenses.

It's much easier when you're a company like Sony / Samsung / HTC / LG / ASUS than it is for me.

I too am disappointed about how poor the initial IMAP rollout for Hotmail was, and how little improvement there has been since. Maybe they view it as just a formality.
