Searching from a message list / folder of an IMAP server does go to the server.

When I search it only returns results that are on the device.

Searching from the main screen does a search in loaded messages (but looks in all accounts / folders at the same time).

Have you tried searching from an open message list "window" / mode?

I'm trying to search from the smart inbox which may be the problem - but searchig indivdually is not really an option for me as I have numerous e-mail addresses. I am a recent iPhone user and love Android except for how it handles e-mail. I basically want what the iPhone defualt mail client had - push email, single inbox and a search that looks at all email accounts both on the phone and server side. I'm struggling to fund that and I thought Aqua mail was there but now not sure it is.

Thanks for the quick responce though!!!

OK, I can see why a search on the Smart Inbox or top level search would not go server side as the app would have to kick off a server side search separately in each of the possible mailboxes in all accounts which is way too much work and network traffic.

It would be intuitive if the search box did a server side search in a single mailbox if I select that mailbox at the top level and then enter a search string even without going into the messages view.

Just installed AquaMail and I am extremely impressed. I've been looking for an Android app that works even vaguely properly with IMAP and has a 2/3 panel view to make full use of a landscape Android tablet screen ever since I bought an Asus transformer. I had pretty much given up on using the tablet for non-trivial e-mail because all the other (non GMail) clients suck so badly until I found AquaMail. Thanks for a brilliant app!
