links dead
« on: April 05, 2014, 06:39:20 pm »
not sure if this dead link issue is a common problem but I am getting confirmation emails to confirm registration or accounts and the links do NOT WORK.

Is anyone else finding a solution to this error or is it the coding?

Thanks in advance.  :)

One reason I switched to AquaMail from the stock email client on my Nexus 7 tablet is that I had the dead links problem on the stock client but NOT on AquaMail.
AquaMail Pro 1.4.0.47 on Nexus 7 (2013) using Android 4.4.4

I can confirm that there is something strange. I made tests with links in mails sent from different android mail clients (Profimail Go and Aquamail itself), both should be plaintext. But the links look different (only the underlined worked as links).

Maybe in the next days I can do one more test with Thunderbird on PC to see the differences in mailbody coding and make shure I send real plaintext...

If you're running Android 4.0 - 4.3 (but not 4.4), please check:

Menu -> View -> Disable mobile view (if that item is there). Then close and reopen the message.

There is a bug in those Android versions where "mobile view" (so called "single column layout") causes real, highlighted links to not work sometimes. Not an issue in 4.4 anymore -- the entire "mobile view" feature has been removed.

For the highlighting differences -- I'm not quite sure those are really plain text messages (judging by the different highlighting).

Hi,
today I tested with Thunderbird at PC.
I found out:
1. Profimail has sent HTML and Plaintext (time to say good bye to ProfiMail Go ;-) )
2. Change to "deactivate mobile view" on my Xperia V with Android 4.1.2 corrected the links of other emails - Thank you!
3. An email from Thunderbird (real Plaintext!) looks in Aquamail like this sent from Aquamail, so www-adresses (without http...) and email-addresses are not linked. It would be a fine thing, if this could also be Links in an Plaintext-email.

2 - Glad I was able to guess... This Android bug has been a real issue. I'm glad to see "mobile view" having gone away in 4.4 (even though not everyone would agree...)

3 - I'll write down your idea about @ and www detection. Since I already have HTML lexing / parsing code in place (for http/https/ftp and phone numbers), this should not be too hard.
