Slow check mail performance

I'm testing Aquamail. Love everything so far but the performance.  It seems really slow on my tablet ... a new samsung TabPro running kit kat.  Suggestions?

Not sure what to tweak here. I've run k9 and others. Like them less but they have better performance.

My email is POP3.

What aspect of performance?

The time it takes to check mail?

Time it takes to completely load a message (for larger messages) when you open them?

Just in general navigating between screens in Aqua?

I can make recommendations but need your clarification first, please.
