Store SENT emails in Inbox on Imap-Server
« on: March 07, 2014, 04:16:09 pm »
Hi!

I would like AM to store any email I send in the Inbox on the IMAP- Server. This way the email should show up in the Inbox of Outlook 2013 as well.
(I use the same setup in Outlook)

Reasons:
1.) With all new mails (incoming or created) in one place I only have one place to clean up.
2.) I have a sync issue between Outlook and my Imap which I cannot solve (mails sent via AM are stored in the appropriate Imap-folder but the folder is consequently ignored). This is actually the main problem because I am missing the emails I sent from AM in Outlook.

Any help is highly appreciated.

Cheers,
Michael

P.S. I am using the free version of AM because I can't solve this. Love the program and wold switch to PRO if this were solved.

The app is usually able to set this up automatically, but if that didn't happen, please do:

- Long press the account
- Choose Options and Folders -> Folders
- Let the folder list refresh
- Tap the server side Sent folder, choose "Sync with [ Sent ]"

Thanks, I knew that way. And this actually works: Emails sent by AM are correctly synced with the folder on the IMAP server. However this folder (regardless of it's name or special folder settings) is not synced with Outlook. That's obviously not an AM issue.

However my workaround idea was to store sent emails in the INBOX (just like incoming mails) because it seams that this is synced correctly.

Thanks anyway.

Outlook seems to be decidedly quirky, when it comes to syncing sent items. Does this link shed any light? http://www.msoutlook.info/question/486
I believe there is also an option on outlook that seems counter intuitive. I can't remember what it is called, but it is related to saving sent items. If you check the box, it saves only locally, if you clear the box, it saves on the server. The late (unlamented) outlook express does something different again. This is from a long time ago so I may not be remembering correctly.
Could always use Thunderbird of course! It will import your outlook messages (those that are on your pc, that is) into a local folder called Outlook Import.

Thanks but no I don't have the often complained about problem with the "(this computer only)"- folders.
Also it is not about email sent in Outlook that is not synced to the server, but emails sent with AM that ARE synced to the server but from there they are not syncec to Outlook.

I used Thunderbird for many many years an only recently changed to Outlook. My reasons were the uncertain future of TB, the i.m.h.o no longer intuitive structure and most of all the fact that my clients almost all use Outlook. I offer Financial Management but that sometimes involves structuring work processes and that involves the used software. Therefore knowing Outlook offers me more options to serve my clients.

Well, "the new Thunderbird" is called EmClient, and they're calling it "the best email client"... :)

The issue you're having is that Outlook also needs to be configured to 1) use IMAP 2) sync the Sent folder with its own sent messages

I'm certainly not the world's leading authority on Outlook, and only use Windows once a month or so, but... hope the below links help:

Thanks for the tip with EmClient! I tried it now over the weekend and it works fine (migration was smooth and easy; syncs google contacts and calenders and works flawlessly with my IMAP-server and per consequence with AM).

Unfortunately EmClient lacks conversation view (something we are kind of used to nowadays) and I am not satisfied about the other possible viewing options either (especially calender and tasks).
I will continue to give it a try a see how I get along.
