Sorry folks, a very basic question is coming your way.   :'(

I've had AquaMail Pro installed on my Tab for a while, but not had the time to get to grips with it.
However, now I have a little more time to hand....

I pick up an email it's displayed and read.
I now want to Reply and Quote as I would on my PCs mail app, so that I can interleave my replies.

Thus:

>  Hi Arturox, the invasion fleet from "Somewhere over the rainbow",  has arrived...

To which I will write my reply...

>  Arturox, can you send us your transportation  co-ordinates, then we'll send you a new "Interociter."

To which I will write my reply...

>

And so on...........

I can't seem to find any way of making this happen.
I'm aware of the menu options, "Reply (as new)" and "Reply (clean)". but neither of those give me the above noted...

Thanks
Arturox

Hit the pencil and start typing :-)

Been there done that, it doesn't, and part of the reason for my initial posting.
Well, I can start typing into the blank mail write window that presents, but it has no connection to the posting I've just been reading.
No To: address, no subject, and no quoted text.

Go to "Settings"
then ""Composing and sending"
Select "Quote the original"
then you can choose the type of header format "Quoting header format"
and eventually add or not a horizontal line in "Quoting feature"

Please tell us when it works

All that is already done, and the quoting feature is > not a line.

I just cannot get from the posting I'm viewing on the Tab screen in AquaMail to  a Reply and Quote write window.

Okay I've now managed to fathom out how to get at a mail reply window, and to interleave my replies, only fly in the ointment is no original poster text, quote marker  ">"

Thus it should be:

> Original poster text.

My reply...

> More original poster text...

My reply... and so on.

Why am I not getting the original poster text indicated by quote marker level 1?

New day, freshened brain, I've done a bit more 'sperimentin' but nothing I can do will get the original posters text lines quoted with the usual angle bracket  '>'

So why?

A mail client app that can't set this to differentiate  between previous and new is somewhat useless.
I guess, considering how much AquaMail is lauded as among the best Android mail apps around, it should be able to do this.

But How?

So it's Monday morning and I've been prodding this that and the other in the hope of getting somewhere.

Eventually I did *once* get the OP text quoted, nearly peed myself with excitement, but then couldn't remember what exactly I'd prodded to get there.
Started proddin'  and eventually got there again.  (No threat of UI this time).

Very strange...
I open posting and read it.
Prod the Back arrow in the AquaMail bottom tool bar.
I get the screen re-drawn with the original text (Bar) quoted.
I click the Pen/Pencil write tool that appears with this window re-write.
Window gets re-drawn with the original text in > quotes ready to write, then post.

It doesn't say that's the required process in anything I've seen or read.

How do you go about replying in the first place?

Please use the icons below the message, the "left arrow" is replying, and it does add ">" quote prefixes....

On other other hand, reply and forward commands in the menu (not the icons) are for special cases, one of them (reply clean) does not add quoting prefixes, and this is deliberate (that's the point of this command).

I'm attaching a few screenshots below, hope this helps.

Thanks for the note.
Since my posting on the 3rd March when I discovered by a lot of trial and error that clicking the back arrow (You call it Left arrow is replying)  I can reply with original posting quoted.

Once I'd sorted that out, I've had no problems replying quoted.

So the answer to your first question is... Now, exactly the same as shown in your attached pictures.

Q1) Since when has a back facing arrow meant anything other than that, go backwards in the process... Disk tracks, application operation, etc.?

To reply is to go forwards into a new process, not go backwards. Maybe the icon needs changing to something relevant to the reply process.

I searched a lot during the trial and error period, but couldn't find anything about clicking the back (Left) arrow to start the reply process.

Maybe someone might like to point me at the documentation where that is noted?

Thanks
Ax

Wheyll, stock Android Email, and Gmail both use a curved left pointing arrow to reply.

So does K9.

So does Thunderbird.

So does Gmail / web.

So does Yahoo mail / web.

So does Fastmail / web.

So does Roundcube web mail.

Outlook uses a straight (not curved) left pointing arrow.

So does Outlook / web (Office 365).

Think I'm starting to see a pattern here :)

The right pointing arrow in that same icon bar stands for "forward".

Android tip: long pressing an icon in an action bar (icon bar) briefly shows its help text ("tooltip").

Well there yuh' go... As I don't use any of them, I wouldn't know.  :-/

So the left pointing arrow is "Reply" and the right pointing arrow is "Forward" so what do you use for "Backward"?

You folks quite sure I'm not  in the Twilight Zone...  ;-(
He,he!

For "backward" (as in "navigate back")?

Thanks for the info, most useful, so I'm now illuminated.  :-)
