Sync issue
« on: February 26, 2014, 06:02:42 pm »
I have Aqua Mail on a Nexus 5, one Gmail account set to IMAP Push. The problem is it's very inconsistent.

I have the Notification icon saying "Push mail: <my mail>", when I send myself a test mail, it changes into "Synchronizing with: <my mail>", and gets stuck there until I open the app, and it will refresh and find the mail only then.

However, if I just restarted the phone, mails will automatically be pushed, without getting stuck on "Synchronizing" phase, but only until I open the app and close it by sweeping it out. After that it behaves like I stated above, getting stuck.

(I have data sync enabled - does it even matter, I set Aqua Mail to ignore it and always sync. Do I need to have set "Scheduled checks" even while I'm using IMAP Push? Tried it both on and off either way, no difference in the issue)

Thought about posting this in the Bugs section, which made me notice the sticky about Swiping apps killing notifications, so kind of problem "solved".

Still a question though. Do I need to have that "Scheduled checks" in order to have it properly pushing mails to me? I'm having it unchecked while using IMAP Push and it seems to be working fine, so I'm wondering if it may cause malfunctioning after some time or something - I'm not really an expert.

And does that "Sync even when Auto-Sync is off" means I can even disable my global Data Sync without Aqua Mail being affected? Just trying to maximize my battery life on this hungry Nexus 5 :D

Thanks for the great app!

Ah, yes, swiping in 4.4 kills the background "service" --- *and keeps the icon in the status bar* (!!!)

I would keep "scheduled checks" enabled -- so that if not all your folders have push enabled, they can still get updated.

By default, Aqua enables just the Inbox for push, and even though you can enable others, it probably doesn't make sense for all folders... I mean, why waste the battery on Spam or Trash folder?

You are completely correct about the "system settings" setting.
