So, which *IS* the best email service out there?
« on: January 05, 2014, 09:17:41 pm »
So, since we have the best Android email client out there, what is the best email service to go with it? The three usual suspects have various caveats that go along with them:

GMail - non-standard folder management (Labels) and tricks that Google keep to themselves
Yahoo! - Push email on IMAP only if your name is Apple
HotmailOutlook - "IMAP? Yeah we're getting round to properly implementing that one day."

So apart from the big three, what are the other's (non regional) that folk use and why? This can include paid versions if needs be, just wondering which provider gives the all round best service out there.

iCloud works really good for me. I mostly use an iPad and only bought an android cause it was a cheap stop gap until a big screen iPhone. So aquamail and smoothsync work the magic for me to sync with iCloud.

I'm using Runbox with all my various free accounts from Outlook, Gmail etc forward to aliases at Runbox. It's obviously a paid subscription but I'm very pleased with the speed and reliability so far.

One my faves is Fastmail.

Paid (but inexpensive), formerly from Opera Software, recently bought out by the employees.

- A very complete IMAP implementation with UIDPLUS, ESEARCH, MOVE (and many more extensions I've never heard about)
- IMAP IDLE
- IMAP MODSEQ/CONDSTORE ("no change shortcut" in AquaMail)
- Domain hosting, family and business plans
- Nice web mail (no split view like in Gmail, but then I don't see them making drastic changes like Google does lately).

Disclaimer: I don't use it regularly, it's just a test account
