Need Push Email - Not Sync on minutes. "HELP"
« on: January 03, 2014, 01:43:05 am »
Hello this is my first time posting so I hope I describe my issue correctly, I've seen a similar post to what I'm asking. I have been a iphone user for many years and I receive alot of emails from my clients on a asap basis. On the iphone my emails "pushed" to the email on iphone almost instantly when sent from sender. I do not like my stock email app on my Samsung S4 because it syncs only every 15 minutes and does not push to me immediately. I did reviews on email apps available and was told that the Aqua mail app had the push mail feature.  In the "mail,Receiving" section I have the Schedule Checks  box "unchecked" and have "When the app is active"  "checked" that pertains to pushing the emails. When I get emails from others or even try to send to myself to see how quick they will arrive, nothing happens. Am I doing this correct ? I was using the Freq syncing to every 5 minutes but its draining my battery quicker. I am needing a email app that will let me get my emails quick as pushed like the iphone. Does anyone have helpful advise if this app will do this or if Im not doing something correct. If there is other steps involved please list them and I will set it up. Also Im using the free version for now to see if this will do what I need for my emails, if I can get it to push instantly then I will get the paid version. I hate to go back to the iphone 5 so hope info can be provided.  Also I am using yahoo as my email client.  Thanks for help, Eddie

Hello Eddie,

I think that your problem may lie with using Yahoo! as an email service. My understanding was that they don't use a normal method of using IMAP IDLE to enable push emails but instead use a more funky, non-traditional method of achieving this.

Apple may have had some agreement with Yahoo! to support this method of access which is why it may have worked with your old iPhone.

I hope I'm wrong here and that Kostya will sweep in and tell you to ignore me, but I fear otherwise...

Push mail for IMAP (instant incoming email delivery) for those servers that support the IDLE extension (Gmail, GMX, AOL… not supported by Yahoo).

From what I've been able to tell, Yahoo! Push is rather non-standard. Rather than using IMAP IDLE or standard P-IMAP, it uses a proprietary UDP-based form of out-of-band notification. When the phone gets one of these OOB notifications, then it opens a new connection to the IMAP server and checks for mail.

Rachel - sorry, you are completely right about Yahoo and its lack of support for the industry-standard IMAP IDLE.

Yes, they worked something out with Apple, and it seems to be largely undocumented.

Maybe with Ms. Mayer at the steering wheel, Yahoo will start turning more towards using open standards, but it certainly has not happened yet wrt. to IMAP IDLE.

Oh, and the obligatory Steve Jobs quote on IMAP IDLE -- "It's a power hog!"

I hope all that replied will see this thank you from me! I've been working with the aqua mail app since early this morning tweaking it to my liking. In my case of business emails I need them asap so Ive switched over to gmail since it will work perfect with this app! And it pushes immediately perfect to my S4 right on time. Ive even forward my yahoo email account to the gmail account so I can get my clients emails until they get the new gmail address saved. I absolutely love this app. Way to go Aqua!!  I tried 2 other email apps Google market recommended but I found this being more flexible  and customizable. Will be buying the paid version!
One question I do have and don't know if I need to post this question as new, In the Aqua app with my gmail account I would like to created custom folders that is titled for each saved email from each client. In all menus I could not find any settings that said created new folder. Is this possible as far as the free version or will it come with the paid version if even offered. If offered can you inform me the steps.
I have titled folders for each saved clients emails in yahoo. Most of all, thank you everyone that has helped me. I was giving up on getting any response. Thanks if you can answer this other question. Have a great weekend............Eddie   ;)

Eddie - glad I was able to help.

You can create additional Gmail folders (Gmail calls them "labels") in Gmail / web, at this link:

https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?shva=1#settings/labels

To sync your new labels / folders into AquaMail, long press the account -> Options and Folders -> Folders.

Each label will be represented by a folder.

The FAQ has more useful info on working with folders (link below).

Thank you Kostya  for ALL your help. So far I got everything working perfect. Is there anything else included in the paid version beside removing the Aqual mail signature.  Wasn't for sure what else may be included. Thank you for every bit of info you and others have provided......Eddie
