Can't add Gmail account

Hi. Great email app but I get "incoming/outgoing mail server authentication error etc" when I try and add my Gmail account. A details are correct. Have tried manual and automatic. I have Google 2 step verification using the authenticator set up on my Galaxy Note 2. Is it this that is not allowing me to add the account and is there any work around? Thanks.

If you are using 2 step authentication, then you'll need to generate a password for my app, just like for any other. Using your "master" password won't work.
