Status Bar Icon
« on: July 17, 2013, 01:42:13 pm »
Hi,

I can only see the blue status bar icon when syncing is in progress.
I have a POP3 and an IMAP account and IMAP Push is enabled, I even tried with Scheduled Checks enabled.

Is there any way to see the status bar icon all the time for as long as Aqua Mail sits in the background?

Thanks

Thomas

It is enabled, but it doesn't appear in the status bar (Galaxy Nexus - Android 4.2.2).

OK, got it.

So I have 2 accounts: 1 POP3, 1 IMAP. IMAP push was enabled in the global settings, but not on the accounts. Only when also enabling IMAP push on _both_ accounts, the status bar icon indeed stays there.
But there are 2 things that are not intuitive at all:
-I have to enable IMAP push on all accounts in order for the setting to be really active
-I also have to enable "IMAP push" on a POP3 account - but it also works there, new emails are registered instantly.

I also tried to end the Aqua Mail task with a task manager when in "IMAP push" mode, and it cannot be done until this setting is disabled (this is the expected behaviour and perfectly fine).
So in reality "IMAP push" seems to really mean "Stay in the background and watch for new mails".

Now, what I would whish is a quick setting to disable "IMAP push", like an "Exit" button in the main window to quickly stop the background program...
That would make Aqua Mail the ultimate mailer for me (I'm still using the free version but probably not for long).

IMAP push is off by default, intentionally. Not everyone needs instant message delivery, esp. given higher battery use.

The global setting is there too so that push can be turned off for all push enabled account in one place. This is based on user feedback.

IMAP push setting does not show in per-account Options and Folders / Account options for POP3 accounts... Is this account really POP3?

You're right, it is indeed an IMAP account  :) .
This is strange because I shouldn't have access to IMAP on that provider, but AquaMail just "guessed" the IMAP host and it works... it's a bug on the provider's side, but a good one  :) .

For those email providers not included in the app's preset database, the code tries "imap.<your domain name>" with various common ports, then "pop.<domain>" with various common ports, etc.

So yes, it sometimes can find IMAP even if it's not officially listed :)
