It's something I have ideas about, to improve. I see some of this on my Nexus 7.
Would like to point out though, that as you open a message, its content is shown right away and is animated -- Gmail, to pick an example, first slides an empty area into view, and only then shows the message.
Believe I could improve on the current state of things, though.
