Setting up aliases - part 2, AquaMail
« on: June 20, 2013, 03:21:22 pm »
This part covers setting up AquaMail to work with aliases / identities already configured in Gmail.

Start by adding your @gmail.com account, choose to "configure options and folders", then tap Folders.

Tap each of your folders / labels where Gmail puts mail collected from other accounts, and set it to "Sync, plain folder" (formerly known as "Sync as incoming").

Result of previous step: messages from other accounts, collected by Gmail, show in AquaMail, each account in its own folder

Next step is adding identities in AquaMail under the parent @gmail.com account.

Long press the account, choose "Identities", then add them one by one.

Be sure to select "Configure outgoing server" - just like with Gmail web mail, to prevent "Sent on behalf of @gmail.com" in your messages.

Result: the new identity is available in the drop-down list when composing a message. The app will also use it automatically when replying, as appropriate.

An identity does not have its own incoming mail server setting... it works inside the parent account -- that's pretty much the definition of what an identity is.

I'm not sure how Apple's mail service is set up with the respect to identities needing their own outgoing mail server or not.

I'd recommend trying without first (this is the default setting when adding an identity), sending a test message in AquaMail using the new identity.

On the error message, "data incorrect" tells me nothing, all account/identity setup messages end like that. If you could be more exact, it would help.

Hi

A silly question: Having set up new identities, I was able to change from the default identity to one of the newly created ones on my wife's tablet, but when I came to repeat the procedure on my own tablet, I can't for the life of me find the setting anywhere!!! - Can anyone help, please?

Where is " Setting up aliases - part 1, AquaMail?

Also I think it would be very helpful if the solutions to issues were posted for all to see.

Finding that a solution was found for an issue and after scrolling through all the posts only to find that it was solved without details is very frustrating!

Thanks,

Greg

Is it possible to "force" Aquamail to always use an identity for outgoing emails and never use the "parent" ?
Example:

Parent: A (AT) gmail (DOT) com
Identity (managed by A (AT) gmail (DOT) com): B (AT) gmail (DOT) com

Receiving mails -->A (AT) gmail (DOT) com
Sending mails from --> B (AT) gmail (DOT) com

I changed my name and would like to keep using my "old" account, and I still receive alot of eMails to the old address, so using the "reply with the same account as email was sent to" does not work in this case.

Sorry for the weird eMails, I am not allowed to use "external links".

Would it be an idea to set forwarding in Gmail from A-account to B-account?

And additionally NOT to have the A-account in AquaMail. So you will reply all mails to A through the account B and Sender address of B.
