Duplicate Contacts

Hello,  The contact list that comes up when I click contacts button on the address line has lots of duplicates -- duplicates that are not in my contacts app.

Ideas?

Do you use some other application that adds contacts, such as Skype?  If you use Skype, all the Skype contacts will show up as contacts; you can disable Skype Contact syncing in Skype settings.

I see a lot of those coming from Google Plus, literally hundreds of people I don't really "know", you know?

They are returned by Android when my code queries the contacts (filtering by the entered text)...

The native Android Gmail app exhibits this too, so it must be something fundamental Google decided to push upon us.
