Notifications on old messages

I see. My app's notifications are built around the total number of unread messages, so I can see how this can happen sometimes.

When the unread number changes, the app has to update its notification(s) to reflect the new state. Gmail works the same way.

However, with the default settings, there should be no repeat sound (even if you have a sound selected).

The default settings are: Play sound only once (on), Only when new messages (on), Only when there are changes (on). Can you try checking those settings -- these are global app settings under Notifications.

What does the above setting "Only when there are changes" do?

AquaMail is a fantastic app but my vote too is for only getting notifications with a new mail message and not every time the unread count changes, sorry but its irritating.

The settings option in the app are very powerful but would be great to see more documentation on how they work. I have read the FAQ but still some things are complicated.

Adding an option to notify about "truly new messages" is actually the next task on my todo.

I am loving Aqua Mail, except for one thing which is slowly driving me crazy.

Every time Aqua Mail checks the server (every 15 mins), I get an email notification which includes all my unread emails, regardless of whether there is a new email or not.  This gets a bit irritating after a while.  I haven't read those emails for a reason—they're usually Spam—and I don't need to know anything more about them.  I don't need to know, every fifteen minutes, that I have Spam. 

Here is what would be amazing: individual, new email notifications.  Personally, that is all I need to be notified about.  Having looked a little bit through your forum, I don't think I'm alone.  I hope this is what you mean by a "truly new messages" notification.  If it is, it will make me very happy.

I loved everything about Aquamail except for this very thing which is why I uninstalled it months ago.  Too bad, as it could be nearly perfect if the developer would just make the change.

The developer has been wanting to work on this (notifying about "new" messages only) for a while now, but Exchange got in the way, and formatted text before that, etc.

I'm hoping to finally post a development build with a "notify about new messages" option in a few days.

I'm a new Aquamail user comming from ProfiMail Go and bought the Pro version of AquaMail to test it more deeply in everyday use. It's a great app, I appriciate it!
As I have the habbit to keep ToDo-Mails unread in the IN folder, I would like to have notifications only on new mails, too.

Awesome, downloaded the development version with this enhancement aded, that's earned a purchase of the pro version from me.

I'm using it in conjunction with my own IMAP server (dovecot based), a Pebble, and Rich Notifications for Pebble (sends notification to Pebble and dismisses it).  This combination now allows me to have the correct action of "new incoming mail = new notification for that mail". 

Before, it was 95% perfect but this scenario would happen:
>3 unread messages, 3 buzzes to the wrist
>click on one of the messages on my desktop, it marks it as read, AM saw this as a change and buzzed me again for the 2 still-unread messages

Thank you, this new option is far more usable for me. 
Love this app.  It has all the attention to detail of a particular competing product which is also very good, but which I found suffered from the stubbornness that sometimes afflicts open source projects..   (I love open source, but it can be a slow moving beastie sometimes when a simple enhancement request becomes a 20 page debate and no one wants to take it on).  To say nothing of the top handful in the Play store that are just pretty inboxes with little to no configuration seettings at all.

I'm glad to hear this new feature is working well for you. I kept it as a setting, because some people prefer the old way (keeping track of all unread messages to deal with later.... myself included).

Regarding open source mail apps... Think I know one. They have just above 100 contributors (as indicated on their GitHub page). Must be nice...
