Does not show email after not connected for several days
« on: July 22, 2013, 08:45:13 pm »
I sometimes have to leave my tablet with no Internet connection for several days to a week or more.  When I connect again, it does not show email for the days it was not connected.  Pressing the refresh icons on the account or at the top does not help.

For example, it is currently not showing any email between July 15 and July 19, even though there is email in Gmail for these days and even though other email clients, such as Thunderbird, show these messages.

I can view the email before and after the period before the time it was not connected, and it updates these items as it should.

This is via IMAP with Gmail.

Is there a way to get it to update?

Interesting...

Each time the app checks mail, it looks at a limited number of recent messages, the default is 25 (this is "messages per page" setting).

So after the break, it should get the 25 most recent messages and show them, and then if you scroll down, load more.

Have you tried doing this -- scrolling the list down, to so the app loads more messages, further down the list?

Can you also clarify -- does it load messages from "today" (the day you turn connectivity back on) and not any from the in-between days, or -- does it not load even the most recent messages?

Thank you for your response.

The first time this happened I was not able to get the messages with anything I tried.  It stayed that way for several weeks.  Then one day I got them.  I do vaguely recall that I was at the place where it asks to load more, but I am not sure.

The last time, the messages appeared a day or two after I wrote this post, and I don't know know what I did to make that happen.

Yes, it loads messages from today (and succeeding days) once I get a connection.  It also _has_ loaded the messages before the missing period, whether newly or from before I don't know.  That is, when this has happened, only the messages from the time there was no connection were missing.

From what you said perhaps I didn't scroll far enough down to get the load-more option.  I will try that next time.  (It's not an obvious thing to do -- scroll down before messages you have already read to make it refresh ones in between.)  The various refresh buttons (circling arrows) don't fix it.  Maybe an option somewhere to reload (whatever the load-more option does), as opposed to refresh, would be more intuitive.

Thanks again for your good explanation of how it works.
