Aquamail does not store message notification sounds
« on: April 29, 2013, 06:31:41 pm »
Hello,

I have an ALCATEL ONE TOUCH 997D running Android Ice Cream Sandwich. I have many e-mail accounts and I want to add custom sounds to notify arrival of new e-mail.

When on the account I go to SPECIAL SETTINGS and MESSAGE NOTIFICATIONS I click ENABLE NOTIFICATIONS and on SOUND I select a sound, all works fine until I turn off the phone and turn it back on. At that point if I go to SPECIAL SETTINGS and MESSAGE NOTIFICATIONS, under SOUNDS the one I selected has disappeared and, instead, I get the message UNKNOWN RINGTONE.

Thanks.

I have an issue similar to yours. My message notification, reverts back to the Default "No Sound" notification. Please let me know if there's a way around this

I am unable to reproduce this... Can I suggest reinstalling the app? (you can back up your account settings first, and restore them afterwards).

Hello,

I backed up my settings. Uninstalles Aqua Mail. Reinstalled Aqua Mail, restored my settings, configured notification sounds to sounds that are on my phone and after a couple hours, all personalized ringtones have disappeared and, instead, I see the message UNKNOWN RINGTONE.

I have noticed that the ringtones that disappear are ringtones that I have made myself as recordings and stored in the RINGTONES directory.

I have done a few tests regarding this issue and come to the following conclusion :

Issue:
1. Apps do not retain Ringer or Notification Tones after the App or Android OS is restarted hence displaying "No Sound" in the AquaMail main notification settings.
2. Ringer and Notification Tones on Memory Card or Imported into default folder always tend to reset when Android OS or the associated App is restarted.

Reason:
From the info I have gathered, this happens because the Android OS always loads the Memory Card upon restart and for some reason most Apps are not able to pick the tones from the Memory Card, hence the "Unknown" or "No Sound" status.

Solution:
To avoid this situation, you are advised to use system default Ringer and Notification Tones as they do not reproduce the issue. I have tested this myself over days and haven't had the issue even after restarting the phone.

Hopefully this helps other out there as the issue is definitely not an AquaMail issue but rather the Android OS itself.
