Message List Attachment Icon

Hello,
Recently my Aquamail updated to 1.13.2-730, which seemed to have made some minor changes to the message list view, it's so hard to see the changes when you aren't aware of an update.

I have a very trimmed down version of the message list, I like being able to see a minimal amount of info pertaining to a message.

After this update, I seem to notice more whitespace, and then also noticed the attachment icon consuming a complete empty line of space, so if there is no attachment a large blank line of space is left between message listing in my view.

I'd like to be able to turn the attachment icon on/off.  If you check my screen shot attached, it's even a bit difficult to understand which message the attachment is for, I've sent these messages to myself and noted where it has an attachment and does not.  You can see how this could be a bit confusing as to which message the attachment belongs to.

Please consider being able to either have this icon on or off, or move it somehwere that it does not allocate an entire row of space for it.

I've searched all over and could not find any reference to such an option already existing, if there is this option I truly apologize as I did attempt for a few hours over the past 2 days to locate it.

What are your message list settings exactly?

I can tell you've turned off "attachments" and "message content preview" and "contact images" and "stars", anything else I'm missing?

I'm looking at our source code change history and not seeing any recent changes - so you must have updated from a very old version, right? Something like 1.11 - 1.12?

The icon will show even if you turn off "attachment previews" - this is intentional, "something" to indicate that there is / are attachments, even if their names / sizes are set to not show.

The icon uses very little "extra" vertical space, it's not a whole blank line, rather it's inside a message list item's top padding (expanding it a bit if necessary).

As for "hard to see which message the icon is for" - the reason for this is that you've got dividers (thin horizontal lines between items) turned off.

It may be simpler for me to state what I have enabled.

The following items I have enabled in the Message List settings;
Break up by date
Sticket date headers
Slim padding
Subject above sender
Full sender info
Load more messages
Pull to select
Pull to refresh
User backgrounds

I don't selectively update, I just let it update the software on it's own, I'm not sure when that happens but it does do it all on it's own and notifies me the next time I open it.

Your example attachment is nice, you can see that the message with an attachment does take up more space than any other message, when I get a number of messages with attachments it takes up real estate on my screen.  I get many messages throughout the day, so being able to see as many as possible in one view is important to me, content is only important if I open it.

I'd still like to ask that perhaps a method of not displaying the attachment icon.  This is not something that I care about on my mobile device.  If I open the message, I can easily tell there is an attachment, but in the message list, it isn't important to me.

I am merely making a suggestion, as always I trust your judgement, you have thus far created the only mobile mail application that I truly love and I thank you for that.

But unfortunately not completely resolved - from the user's point of view, at least not until today

In general, people do care about attachments (visible in message lists).

The icon takes a very small additional amount of vertical space, you can see it if you enable list dividers back.

-- yes we did a redesign about a year ago. Overall I consider it a success.

There are some "edge" (unusual) configurations that don't look exactly how they did before, but we did keep the customization capabilities, pretty much all of them except some are somewhat / a little / more than a little different now.

Overall - after some corrections and modifications - the new design fits. That's correct.

But, there are still some optical inconsistencies left - to get a better user experience (... one of them is the placement of the attachment icon - and there are one or two things more  ).

That's just my opinion from the user's point of view and meanwhile almost 5 years of experience with AquaMail.

Thank you both for the details on my request.

I'll just put up with it.  I really didn't think being able to not display the attachment icon would be such a big deal, seems nearly everything else that can be annoying has an on/off swith in the message list settings.

Oh well, I still love the product.
