Hi,

i really love AquaMail and bought the pro key today.

But i have two things that would make this app absolutely awesome:

1) Can you please "unlock" the from field?

Why? - I own a domain and i use the "catch-all" function of my provider. So every mail which is sent to any adress with my domain in it (e.g. dacoco(a t)mydomain(d o t)de or whatever(a t)mydomain(d o t)de or aquamail(a t)mydomain(d o t)de) is beeing submitted to my home adress home(a t)mydomain(d o t)de.
Actually there is only one mailbox (home(a t)mydomain(d o t)de) and when i give away for registering anywhere, i always use the name of the company as adress. E.g. when i write with expedia, the address is expedia(a t)mydomain(d o t)de. When i get viagra spam now to expedia(a t)mydomain(d o t)de i know who sold my address ;-)

So the mail delivery works great but when i have to answer a mail from expedia which is sent to expedia(a t)mydomain(d o t)de i want to use expedia(a t)mydomain(d o t)de as the sender.
And that's where AquaMail should come in place.
If you could enable the FROM field i can set expedia(a t)mydomain(d o t)de as the sender and noone gets my real home address home(at)mydomain(dot)de.
(On my PC this works really great with the Thunderbird Addin virtual identity).

Please implement it :-))

2) IMAP Search in the whole mailbox

It's really great that you implemented server side search, but i think it only works when you are inside of a folder.
Maybe you could expand it to all folders?

Thank you very much!
Regards
Daniel

I'm a newbie too, but I do manage several email addresses at the same time too and it seems to work fine in AquaMail. Could you not just set up several accounts (e.g. one for expedia @ yoursitename.de) and then use the 'From' dropdown in the top-right of the compose page when you are sending emails out from different addresses? Creating completely user-defined fake 'From' addresses is not really a good idea for an email client...

Sure, you and I know they are not really fake - but if you could type anything into that field, how can the app know unless they are set up as accounts? I guess it's a feature that could be prone to abuse.

Ok, but if you want to fake addresses you can take other tools also.

For me it would be a great feature. When I want to write a mail with a custom from address I have to use my self scripted webmail... that sucks a little bit on my mobile.

It isn't really the responsibility of an app to police this type of behaviour on the part of users, any more than it is on a desktop email client like Thunderbird or Pegasus. The SMTP server through which outgoing messages are being sent, can check the sender's authentication credentials and FROM name if desired, and either accept or reject the message based on those criteria. Gmail's smtp server for example will always simply replace/rewrite your sender name as you@gmail.com regardless of what you have entered in the outgoing address field. Other SMTP servers will reject the message outright if the sender name does not match the authentication details.

Really, it's not up to a client application to tie the user's hands and try to prevent misuse. That is the job of server administrators.

I'm not trying to police anyone, just not a very common case (except maybe with gmail, where you can add a "+whatever" to your email).

For item 2 - IMAP search is folder based at the protocol level. Searching from the main window (account list) goes through all loaded messages, in all accounts / folders (actually, not quite true either, just those folders that are set to sync).

No I know that wasn't your intention... just responding to the previous poster who suggested that this option should be expressly forbidden in order to prevent misuse, and pointing out my view that this isn't a role that client-side apps should ever take on, since server-side security routines need to anticipate all scenarios and not rely on app coders to prevent attempts at misconduct.
