Title: Why full screen folder list?
Post by: mkgtu on May 07, 2022, 07:15:31 pm
What is this? (See screenshot) If I hit "back" button on phone — or in my case, using Samsung gestures, swipe up from the right bottom of screen — I get this huge full screen folder list, and I can't get rid of it or swipe it away. If I hit "back" again, the app simply closes. If I then reopen the app it is still on that full screen list — unless I also swipe it away from "recent apps"  list, closing it from background completely.

Of course, the way to get out of that screen is to pick a folder, which brings you back to the regular UI.

But why is that screen even there? You get the same folder list by swiping from the side of the screen, though not full screen. And you can easily swipe that folder list back where it came from. Seems like that full screen list is a throwback to an older style of app that somebody forgot to remove. It's only accessible via the " back" gesture.

Could be AquaMail doesn't play nice with Samsung's use of gestures instead of buttons for "back", "home", "recents"? I know there's a setting to make a "long back" close the app. But I don't think you can "long swipe up", so you have to swipe up twice to close the app. But you get that unwanted folder list on the first swipe, and it's still there after the app is reopened. This menu is called the Account List. If you use 1 account, Aqua Mail does not enable the menu. If you use 2 or more, you'll get a suggestion to enable it.

If you want to stop this from showing, go to Settings > Look and feel > Hide the account list screen.

The back button/gesture behavior did suffer some problems after Google released Android 12 due to changes in how the back button "closes" apps. We've restored the behavior of the options that use the back button and that version is currently under beta test before we officially release it.

Thanks. I checked that box and now the "account list screen" no longer appears when using the back button (swipe gesture). I suppose it began happening when I recently added a second account, but later removed it. Normally I use only one Gmail account which acts as a kind of vacuum cleaner for a bunch of other automatically "forwarded" accounts.
