Title: How can I change color of recipients?
Post by: Justin on June 30, 2021, 11:16:35 pm
Hello, since last update the color for recipients in to/cc/bcc is orange. See screenshot.

In previous versions it was black.

How can change this color?

Hi Justin,

The color in this case only indicates that you've enabled S/MIME and that the recipient does have your public key yet or there is another issue on the recipient's end related to the S/MIME certificate.

If you've not enabled S/MIME and are not trying to send a signed or encrypted email, please let me know of the app version, device model and Android version.

In addition to that, please open Settings > manage accounts > tap on the account you're using here > End-to-end encryption > provide a screenshot of the setup there.

Regards,
Nedialko

Hi Justin,

Actually it's a bug in the version. We've logged it and we'll fix it.

Just to confirm ... under settings > end to end encryption i have disabled 'sign' and 'encrypt' and I am seeing the recipient (to: cc: bcc:) show up in red (or orange.) I'm assuming these should not be showing in a color other than white or black (depending on background theme,) correct?

Thanks.

If you've not enabled S/MIME and are not trying to send a signed or encrypted email, please let me know of the app version, device model and Android version.
S/MIME is disabled. I don't write a signed or encrypted mail.

App Version 1.30.0-1826

I don't have E2E turned on and all my recipients are orange now in the latest version. Add this to your bug list

I also don't use encryption and have noticed the same thing. "To" field contacts are orange (or maybe dark orange or reddish-orange?)
I searched the FAQ and see that (I presume if you are using encryption) a green contact means they have a certificate and a red contact means the recipient doesn't have a certificate (and thus, I presume, won't be able to read the email)
But if you don't have encryption turned on, I'm not sure what an orange contact means. (And I don't even remember what color the recipients used to be in previous versions; maybe white? or blue? Certainly not blazing orange.
So I don't know if this is a bug or just something that could use an explanation.

Whoops. Now I'm really confused. I've never turned on End to End Encryption, probably because I have no idea how to use it.

BUT I just looked, and IT IS TURNED ON! Though I didn't do it. Did the app but turn it on by default? Or is it a Gmail thing? (GMail is the only account I use)

I'm almost afraid to turn it off now for fear I'll break something.

So... I turned off both the switches in End to End Encryption... to see what would happen.... And as the original poster noted, the recipients in the "to" field are still ORANGE, whether E2E is on or off.

Which looks like the coloring is meaningless... Or it is a bug of some sort.

Orange is a universally recognized "alert" color of some kind. Here it's alerting about what?

Hi all,

This is indeed a bug, as confirmed in the thread linked by Justin.

It is only visual and only affects Contact Chips so we will fix it in a future scheduled release.

If the color throws you off too much, there is a workaround by disabling Contact Chips in Settings > Contacts temporarily.

Thank you for bringing it up.

Yes, very annoying bug for all users:
Personally I think it's not big deal. I don't find it annoying. I found it strange that it changed color after the update. I knew it was only aesthetic and therefore wasn't overly concerned with it. I suppose since I don't use E2E it's less of an issue for me as I don't care what color it is as long as I can read it. And as Martin says, if it truly bothers someone, there's a work-around until they get it fixed.

All in all, no big deal.

Thanks. But my mail app is very important for me, so I don't use beta versions. Will wait for regular release.

Hi Justin,

Sorry, but we'll need to run it for a couple of weeks before uploading it officially.

I hope it doesn't bother you too much.
