Title: Android Update disrupts Aqua Mail operation
Post by: mickkev on March 23, 2021, 05:47:30 am
I just updated Android on my Galaxy S10 Plus phone and Galaxy Tab S6 Lite.  Since then, I cannot open email messages on Aqua Mail anymore.   Please fix it.

I have the same phone and got the Samsung system update Saturday. I don't know if the update is causing the issue because I only noticed it this afternoon, two days after the update.
BUT IT'S NOT JUST AQUAMAIL. I can open AquaMail, but not the messages. I also cannot open GMail, Audible, Kindle, New York Times, Washington Post, Dropbox, many or most apps on my phone that are dependent to some extent on an internet connection. Most apps that have no need of internet seem to open and operate normally. But it's odd, OneDrive and Google Drive work fine, but Dropbox won't.
And my internet connection itself is ok, and some internet connected apps do work. Strange
I'm going to call Samsung tomorrow and see if they have any ideas. I was figuring on a factory reset. But if others are having the same issue, maybe a factory reset won't help.

FIXED FIXED FIXED
I've got AquaMail working again on my Samsung Galaxy S10+ ...AND all the other dozens of apps that use internet that wouldn't open.

Found the answer on the Samsung website. If you click "contact us", you get a message saying they are aware that the recent Google system update caused many apps to not open or work properly, and they are working on a permanent fix. But in the meantime, the problem seems to be caused by the system app ANDROID SYSTEM WEBVIEW. They said to just uninstall it.

SO... GO TO THE PLAY STORE, FIND "ANDROID SYSTEM WEBVIEW" AND UNISTALL IT. Actually since it's a system app it won't uninstall, it just removes all the updates and in effect disables it. Be sure to uncheck the box on the app's Play Store page to not auto-update the System Webview, or you'll be back to square one.

So, I uninstalled this Android System Webview, and immediately everything worked again. Didn't even have to restart the phone. I can sleep in peace tonight.
In the near future Google should be issuing a fix, either to Android System Webview or to the system. So keep an eye out for a new update issued sometime after March 22.

Mine is still not working no matter what i do and i have followed every Reddit post and the fix in this thread.

If i uninstall Android System Webview then i when i open an email i get the dreaded red writing saying 'android.view.InflateException'.

If i keep Android System Webview then i cannot open any emails and it force closes.

I have tried updating Android System Webview but i am on latest version.

I have updated Chrome and/or Gmail (suggestions others have said).

As of now, nothing has worked and i cannot open an email if i have Andrew Web View or i can open it but it has red error message if i disable or uninstall Android Web View.

Any suggestions?

Am on Pixel 5 but don't think that makes a difference.

Google released a new version of both Chrome and Android System Webview in the Google Play Store early this morning. Fixes the problem.
So update both. Be sure your using the one dated March 22,  nothing earlier. Need to update both; they kind of work together.

Hi all,

We are aware that there were some issues with AquaMail due to the Google WebView update, which caused crashes for some of our users.
If you're still experiencing the issue:
