Title: "Push" email stopped working for Office 365

I am no longer able to receive an email instantly with "Push" enabled for any of my Office 365 folders.  Instead, I have to manually schedule synching.  I don't have any issues with any of my other mail clients on desktop or mobile that support Office365; including Outlook Mobile.

Even after removing my Office 365 account and adding it back in and synching ONLY my Inbox, doesn't fix the issue.  I'm using all the default settings.

Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this?  The only solution I can think of to use is switching to another mail client like Nine or Outlook Mobile... both work correctly with my account.

PS:  I already disabled battery optimizations for Android.  Rebooting doesnt make a difference either.

Sorry my friend - been an issue since 1.37 beta.  My Best guess is something is happening with the new authentication that was implemented.

I put a ticket in about it early June. Went back to 1.36 stable and seemed to fix it. Once 1.37 rolled out to stable I lost push on 1.36 too.

Martin and the team are still investigating. 1.38 sadly didn't fix this.

Have there been any updates on this issue? Push on Office 365 does not work for me as well. I switched to the Outlook e-mail app, which is not as good as AquaMail.

No sir. The ticket I had open got closed the other day because I hadn't responded in a week back to them. However, I know they are still researching it as Martin had said that they're still looking into it.

Best thing to do at this point, is go into the development thread, download the last 1.36 version. Make a backup of your settings and data in the app through the data and storage area in settings. Uninstall the current version you have (if you still have it installed) and then install the beta 1.36 APK that you downloaded. Restore your data. Make sure to go into Google Play store, go to AquaMail, and turn off auto updates. I've been on this since last week with zero issues with push mail. Martin even told me that the best thing would be to stay on that if I'm having no issues until they can find the problem.

I went to Outlook as well for about a month during this. It works but it's not as good as Aquamail by a long shot.

Great to hear! Are these fixes not yet implemented in the 1.38 beta? Current beta of 1.38 still has push issues.

Unfortunately, I am on Verison 1.38.0-177 and I'm still having issues with push mail and office365. Just thought all might know. I don't think push is working even after the changes that were made.

This could be, but funny how it works as soon as i use the outlook app...just not with aqua mail.... especially since some aqua users state they went back to version 1.36 since it works on that version only

If it is then is possibly a problem with their MSAL authentication. 1.36 which is using the older ADAL authentication works.

I've used about 6 other apps that work with Office365 in the last month. I don't believe any had push issues. It's possible that they all use the older authentication as well.

If it's a problem with Microsoft in general I wouldn't expect all the other apps and version 1.36 to work. But they do.

on my personal account, it's a general public outlook account nothing works even in version 1.36 and with no tested app from the play store. it just works with the Microsoft app :(

Try taking a backup of your data in the app. Then uninstall it.

Install the last 1.36 beta version from the beta development thread in this forum. See if that fixes it for you.

Thanks Mick5150, I have already tried even versions up to 1.35. I even tested ninemail and FairEmail. I reported the problem to Microsoft because even when testing thunderbird on pc it's the same.
They confirmed "make changes to IMAP/pop support and recommend connecting using Microsoft Exchange" which doesn't change anything for me.
So as long as they don't do anything on their side for me, only their outlook app will work!

Push messages stopped working for me on regular IMAP mail. And it doesn't depend on which version, either 1.36 or 1.38. It is more likely that there were problems with the push notification server due to some blocking.

It's very unfortunate that Push mail is a problem on Aqua mail. I work in the IT department of our Organization with about 15k employees and subcontractor and we recommended Aqua Mail as a mail client over Outlook for some time now.... it's actually on our Preferred mail app when possible. After having so many issues with Aqua mail's push features and the Outlook mail app mot having such issues, we will have no choice to remove Aqua mail from our recommended and approved app list. We hate to do this since aqua mail has been great for a lot of things over Outlook, but when it's not fucntional for email (which is what the app is made for) there is no other option. Outlook Mail for Android seems to work with no issues. We will add this back on our approved list once the push mail issue has been resolved.

The more I see I believe this is true for those using IMAP as it sounds like consistent issues across clients accessing the mail.

For Office365 I have no problems in 1.36 client and other mail clients.  Only when Aquamail moved to the new authentication did it start to have issues (versions 1.37+)

Interestingly, the IMAP mail has been working like clockwork for the second day! :D I didn't configure anything myself, the work resumed by itself.

They are aware of it. I've spoken to Martin in official support tickets on this. They are likely not responding in the forums as it is a very apparent issue (one of the only threads that's quite active on the Forum in the last month or so) and have plenty of support requests already in regarding it.

I see a minor version change to 1.38.1 was released today on the play store. Haven't worked up the courage yet to try it out and see how it plays with Exchange and the push notifications.

Same here.  Tried it last night.  I had hope.  Did some test emails and nothing.  So uninstalled and reinstalled my 1.36 backup.

Just and update. Verisin 1.38 still not working. Version 1.36 still works. For those that want push mail to work I recommend you to still use or switch over to version 1.36.

Obligatory update for today's version 1.39 —

Still no push. Rolled back to 1.36.0 :sigh: I guess there at least aren't too many fancy new advantages to the newer releases where going back to 1.36.0 is that much of a disadvantage.

Personally - I understand. I know there's been hostility recently on development. I've always had a good experience with reporting issues via tickets and have Rarely had issues with anything in the app. Best decision on my part to purchase Pro a couple years back. This app is so much better IMO than any other email app out there.  That was the reason I purchased it and was reinforced to me when this issue popped up and I searched others for a temporary replacement. None stood up to my needs. So v1.36.0 it is!

Back to the topic at hand, it seems other providers are also having issues at least with IMAP and Outlook if not also Exchange. For all I know it could be something Microsoft has done, as suggested by others on the forum.

Good luck either way! I'll probably shed a tear the first time it starts to work in a new version. 😂

Hey Everyone!

I just decided to try out version 1.40 today (couple days late from the Play Store update) - So far push notifications from my exchange account are working without issue. This is completely different behavior compared to every update from 1.36 (which I've had installed for months now). Each update I've tested push as soon as update was completed. None have worked.

Until now. So keeping my fingers crossed this isn't a fluke. I'll report back once I have more time to test today. This account typically receives a fair number of emails in a day so I should know soon if it's still working.

UPDATE: Still working great all day. Zero issues. For me I see this issue is fixed. Maybe by Microsoft maybe by Aqua mail team. Either way very happy!

Thanks Martin! Oddly today the push is acting quite slow. All day yesterday on 1.40 seemed to be fine. I did multiple initial test emails to see if it would notify me and it did nearly right away (a little grace there on the fact that there's transmission time, to and from server's etc...) or at least quite quickly. Today, push notifications seem to come sporadically. I have had to manually refreah a couple times, as I can see in my Outlook on my computer there were multiple new emails but Aquamail was showing nothing new. After manual refresh it matched.

I'll keep an eye on it. I'm still encouraged by the path itw on though. Could be a fluke.

Sorry for the delay Martin!  Sadly - later that day I had to revert back to 1.36.  Push stopped working again. 

I plan to test it out again today.  Maybe something else was going on.  Sounds like others may be finding 1.40 working too.  I'll report back tomorrow on how 1.40 is going.  As always, 1.36 was working just fine after I went back - which makes me thing it wasn't something else, and something is still "off" but we'll see.  I'll report back.

Alright here's some more feedback.  I reinstalled the update early this afternoon.  Was working absolutely fine with push.  Had to re-authenticate my Outlook and Exchange emails.  All my exchange emails were notifying me very quickly all afternoon.

I have the app set to do "Nights" in the "Nights and Weekends" settings at 6:00PM.  I have it disable Push and Scheduled Syncs during the Night.  I decided to go back into the App, turn this off and do some more random tests tonight on Push. 

This is where it all falls apart.  Push no longer works.  Despite the main app and the account both having Push enabled and the Night Setting is turned off.  By all accounts - it should be operating just as it did this afternoon.  I've now sent 4 test emails in the last 20 minutes.  None have shown up in my inbox through Aquamail.  In that accounts inbox through Windows 11 mail, all 4 are there. 

So I'm not sure what's going on here, but this would explain last week's issues for me too.  All was good when I installed and reauthenticated.  My phone went into Night mode, and after coming out the next morning, Push didn't work any more - or if it did nearly non-existent. 

Not sure how this may help you Martin. I'll leave installed into tomorrow - however if I can't get Push re-enabled on 1.40 by Noon I'll likely revert back to 1.36.  If you can think of anything else I can share I will to help.

There is one thing I can think of. Try these steps (on 1.40) and let me know if there is a change.

You need to re-register your push to the server again. In order to do that, please try these steps.

​Go to Aqua Mail settings Manage account and choose the problematic account.

​1. Manage folders>Disable the push for all the folders.
​2. Account options>disable push
​3. Mail receiving>disable push
4. Restart the app (completely) 
5. Repeat the steps above, but this time activate the Push (no need to follow the exact order)

​If this doesn't work please re-add your account and repeat the steps.

If all of the steps above don't work, please send us another log file from version 1,40.

Finally after confirming 1.36 is working, I re-updated through the Play Store to 1.40.  after updating, I tested push again. No issues on 1.40. I then tested out just turning off message notifications. This seemed to work just fine, push still worked but no notifications. Re-enabling them allowed the notifications to come into my notifications area and push was still working fine. I then turned push off both in the main app, in the account settings and folder settings. I then turn push back on in all those areas. From that point forward push was no longer working.

I don't know obviously the reasons why here but what this is telling me as a layperson, is something's happening when push is turned off inside of the app. Somehow it is not re-enabling itself despite the app having those options turned on. Upon use after immediate update to 1.40 from 1.36 were there are no issues with push, push seems to work just fine with my office 365 account on 1.40. once pushmail starts getting turned off and turned on in 1.40 it appears that that is when the issues begin. At least for me. Again I have three log files to pass along, just let me know the best way so your devs can review.

Finally after confirming 1.36 is working, I re-updated through the Play Store to 1.40.  after updating, I tested push again. No issues on 1.40. I then tested out just turning off message notifications. This seemed to work just fine, push still worked but no notifications. Re-enabling them allowed the notifications to come into my notifications area and push was still working fine. I then turned push off both in the main app, in the account settings and folder settings. I then turn push back on in all those areas. From that point forward push was no longer working.

I don't know obviously the reasons why here but what this is telling me as a layperson, is something's happening when push is turned off inside of the app. Somehow it is not re-enabling itself despite the app having those options turned on. Upon use after immediate update to 1.40 from 1.36 were there are no issues with push, push seems to work just fine with my office 365 account on 1.40. once pushmail starts getting turned off and turned on in 1.40 it appears that that is when the issues begin. At least for me. Again I have three log files to pass along, just let me know the best way so your devs can review.

Martin - I think you guys have done it. I'm still testing new scenarios (haven't tested nights and weekends toggling) - HOWEVER on 1.41 push are coming through with no issue.

After reauthenticating my accounts, I tested a few emails. Worked great. I then turned push off, tested again. No push. All good. Turned it back on, and push works again! This was that spot I found before where it usually didn't turn back on.

I'll let you know if I find any issues but if you don't hear from me that means all is going well!

I've noticed the extra time too. However it's minimal for me. No issues whatsoever for me on current playstore release. Push for me is working as it did on 1.36.  I receive about 50 emails a day on my work account and all notify with push.

Push is still not working for me. I am on the latest version and I have tried the suggestions. I even deleted the email account and started over. It is not really a big deal for me as I am almost always home so I see the email on my computer several minutes before it appears on my phone (it used to be the other way around). It would be nice to have this working again but it's not a deal breaker for me.

I guess all I had to do was post that push wasn't working and that would fix it. For whatever reason, push started working over the weekend for my Outlook account. I did nothing so whoever fixed it, thanks!

Looks like Push Mail isn't working for me again. Not sure if this is a problem once more, but O365 does not work woth push mail. Am I the only one or does anyone el.

Just jumping in to this as well, noticed Push on O365 is not working for me either.  I went through the steps of turning off push on Inbox, then the account, then the App then killing/closing the app, even tried rebooting my phone, and then re-enabling everything but still Push does not seem to work.  I'm only getting emails on my 15 minute interval.   

I also tried clearing the AqauMail cache as well.

I'm on a Galaxy XCover Pro, OneUI 5.1, Android 13, with AquaMail 1.44.0

Same here. Push notification stoped working on Huawei Nova 5T and after backup and restore aquamail on my new Samsung S23 Ultra - also not working.
I have tried to reinstall app, add account again manualy (without restoring from backup) - still not work.
