Title: New Text Editor background color
Post by: arf8 on June 07, 2018, 04:12:17 am
Just upgraded to latest version which has a new text editor and I noticed the background is gray instead of white for Dark theme.

How can this be changed so the background is again white without having to change the theme?

New text editor in version 1.14
Version 1.14 has a new text editor (on the compose screen) with these new features suggested by users:

– Lists (with bullets or numbers)
– Paragraph alignment (left / center / right)
– When replying, editing the “original” preserves all formatting, even images

This new editor cannot have a black background for technical reasons, so in the dark theme we made the background a “muted” light gray (the light themes use pure white).

When replying or forwarding, the original message is shown as “( … )”

If you just type your new text and tap Send, the original message will be inserted where the “( … )” placeholder was.

To delete the original message just put the cursor on the next line and tap Backspace on the soft keyboard – i.e. this works just like deleting text.

To “expand” the original message for editing just tap the “( … )”. This will keep all the formatting of the original and it’ll be editable as well.

If you prefer the old editor, the new editor can be turned off in app settings -> composing and sending.

You answered your own question. The old editor is what you need to use.

I didn't ask about using the old editor! I asked if there was a way to change the background color in the new editor? If you don't know don't bother replying.

Hi,

If you disable the New editor the background will be reverted as well.

Please let us know if you need further assistance with this.

What I asked was if the background color can be changed in the new editor. I'm aware I can revert to old editor. It does not appear this is an option.

Why not leave the new editor the same white background color and why was gray chosen?

I left you an answer in your other post.

Re: why was gray chosen

Because for the dark theme - gray makes more sense than pure white (which is how it is in "light" themes).

I use the dark theme and with the old editor it has a white background and works well and has for a long time. Too bad it is not an option to keep it white, I've switched to the old editor, at least this option is still available.

Dark theme with white background I can take a screenshot if you like and email you directly.

OK thanks. A screenshot is not necessary, I know what that theme looks like.

Ok sounds good, that is why i was surprised the color wasn't the same in the new editor.

Makes sense actually. "White messages" means "white messages" :)

Wow, thanks for the quick fix :)

Any chance you can look at Priority notification and change it in the future?

Re: Any chance you can look at Priority notification and change it in the future?

As I wrote before, what you describe isn't "priority" notifications. It's something similar but different.

Our *priority* notifications don't need any major changes I don't think.

( but btw we just added a setting to "only notify when there are messages from priority senders" )

The hope was from the start to have the notification per contacts. When priority came out and I forget which developer said more contact would be added, this is where the miss communication started. If there is a chance still to add notification per contacts that is exciting.

btw we just added a setting to "only notify when there are messages from priority senders.
This still doesn't really make the priority notification useful. If I get messages from non priority contact I want to hear the regular notification. In the current implementation if a priority notification is received and the end user does not respond than all other future notifications use the priority ringtone and that really doesn't help the end user distinguish the difference between priority and non priority email. Like Gmail and other apps if you can set the option now for priority contact to use the priority ringtone and when it's a normal contact to use the regular ringtone that would be very useful and ideal. I like most people have our phones on us most of the time. The email notification think of just like a phone notification. I setup ringtones per contact and priority contact, just because a priority contact calls does not mean you are going to take that call, so imagine if all your following calls even if they are nornlmal contacts used the same ringtone as a priority caller. Does not make much sense and it makes the feature unusable. So if you can change it so it only sounds off the priority notification only when the priority notification sends an email that would be great. Looking forward to your feedback.

Unless I completely misunderstood and you are saying priority notification will sound only when it's a priority contact and normal contact will continue to get their regular notification sound? If so great this is a fantastic start, which version can I test this on?

Which version can I find this option but more importantly will normal contacts continue to get their regular notification sound too as well as priority for just priority contacts?

Re: Which version can I find this option

In recent 1.16.0-dev

Re: will normal contacts continue to get their regular notification sound

No this is not how this new setting works (off by default, btw).

The new setting makes it so that the app will *only* post notifications if there are (new / unread) messages from priority senders.

When there are no (new / unread) messages from priority senders - it will *not* post notifications at all.

Oh, bummer, was really hoping the normal notification would also work, again similar to Gmail and other apps.

If this can be changed it will be much more useful to implement it this way for starters.

Thanks
