Title: Delay on send for "recall"
Post by: gatemaze on April 30, 2018, 11:44:31 pm
Is there a way of setting a delay after pressing send during which the email can be "recalled"? Not looking for the confirmation option as I have already found this. Prefer a "do, ask forgiveness" approach to an "ask permission, do" one. One of the few features I would like to have from an otherwise excellent email client.  Thanks.

Sorry there isn't.

And it's not clear to me what that would do - artificially delay the sending?

There is no way to "unsend" a message once it's been handed over to the outgoing mail server.

So if the only option is to "pretend" that a message has been sent but in fact delay the sending - and display some sort of UI to cancel - where would this UI go if you invoked the app's compose screen by let's say "sharing a picture from gallery" - so that after you tap Send, there is none of the app's UI on the screen anymore?

I see the issue. Maybe a prompt in the notification area, not sure if notifications can expire and auto remove? I did't think of this as in my case it would be sufficient for when pressing compose from within the app which stays within the app upon send. Something similar to undo delete/archive swaps which takes you back to composed message or expires and sends message. Works only for latest message and if any action is done (e.g. compose another message) notification expires and message gets submitted. I might be biased from the way gmail web works and there might be better ways.

This is a very important feature.  Gmail has it.  15 second delay.. Or 30.  Frequently when I hit send I have the urge to revise.  I do it all the time in Gmail.  Frequently realize there is an error.. Or it might be going to the wrong person etc.   This is a critical feature. You should really add it.

I've only rarely used the "undo send" feature in GMail, but I'm always glad it's there in case I need it. Always thought AquaMail had the feature also. But now I see it doesn't. So I agree it should have such a feature.

Can't be too hard to do. Would work just like the Undo Delete feature, but you'd also be able to customize in settings the length of the delay — 5 secs, 10, 15, 30, whatever.
Or a pop-up with the Undo Send option could also include an option to Confirm Send or Send Now. The Send Now could be helpful for the times you're doing quick back and forth emailing with someone (almost like texting or chatting) and you don't want a delay.

Again, I use it all the time.  There is this phenomenon that I see my error just as I hit send.....
