Title: gif emoji problem
Post by: anatoly@tkach.me on March 24, 2018, 07:45:20 pm
Hi Kostya,

Once again, thank you for the wonderful email app!

One little problem here: when I try to use gif emoji available on Gboard, the following happens:

1. Instead of inserting the emoji in the email body I'm currently in, AM bings the "new message" window with the cursor put in the "To:" field.

2. The error message pops up saying: Error copying inputContent.

Just FYI, these emojis work fine in the Gmail app. Please, advise.

All the best,
Anatoly

And just what the (censored) is "GIF Emoji"?

Actually your description is clear enough, we should be able to reproduce, but um, this is insane.

( and btw, how do you, even in theory, insert a "gif emoji" into a plain text message? Plain text can't have embedded images )

Animated GIF emojis are available on many android keyboards, e.g. Gboard from Google.

Not sure about "in theory", but sure you can reproduce it in comparison to Gmail:

In Gmail app, while composing new message, pick any Gif emoji from Gboard, and send it to any email address you have control on. Check both Sent and the receiver inbox, and you will see the animated gif in the email body.

If you try to do it in AM, you will get that error message.

Not a big deal, BTW..)

Yes I know what GIF's are :)

Just trying to say it's an abomination, seriously.

We'll look into the error, I filed a ticket.

Great, tnx!
Just for my education, how do you file a ticket with G?

I filed a ticket in *our* bug tracker, not Google's.

I'm sure to Google there isn't anything wrong here (aaaargh).

Got it, tnx! 8)
BTW, is it possible to subscribe to this topic, so I'd be email notified on the updates?

There is a "notify" button below.

But I'd recommend instead subscribing to the "dev" section (just don't expect it in the very next build - we've got more priority things to work on right now, and more than a few... I'll try to look at this near the end of the cycle).

Spent some time looking at it.

It's quite bad - ran into several issues, and most importantly, a critical bug in GBoard itself which prevents our app from being able to access those images (the "error copying" message you've been getting).

If you're curious - more info is here:

I don't know if anyone from Google might run into that, but that's our only hope at this point.
