Title: Persistent incoming server network errors on Wi-Fi only.
Post by: RDHarris55 on July 26, 2017, 02:32:14 am
I've read numerous posts about the topic of persistent incoming server network errors. This just started to happen to me in the last week or so...and only on Wi-Fi. I'm using a Galaxy S7 with latest Android. I'll see the error, turn off Wi-Fi, then aquamail retrieves mail just fine. The router has updated firmware and has been restarted, the phone has been restarted as well.

Any ideas?

Is this your own WiFi network?
What is the error message?
What is the mail provider?

The app's networking code doesn't care if it's WiFi or LTE or HSDPA, etc.

Network errors are always "genuine" - indicating that yes there is problem.

Please note that you may be able to browse the web (for example) or access email at _some_ mail providers but not others.

Since the update to 1.15.0-916 I am getting this (to me) never-before-seen error message. I get it primarily, or possibly only, when I'm connecting via wi-fi. These are at several locations and with wifi access points at home, work, and other locations where I frequently connect, with no problem.

As soon as I take my phone off wifi, AquaMail connects and does it's business quickly.

I am connecting to Gmail, via IMAP, and I'm aware of no changes in their connection requirements.

This all said, roughly about the same time I acquired the AquaMail update, my OnePlus 5 phone was updated to Android 8.1.

There are no networking code changes in 1.15 and no diff in pro vs. free.

There are other "moving parts" here too - such as the update to 8.1.

( btw - no issues at all on a Nexus 5x with 8.1 connected to my home WiFi )

- what is the actual error ("persistent network errors" get triggered after 12 hours of consecutive network errors)?

- does it depend which WiFi it's connected to? maybe office WiFi specifically, which may be blocking access to email?

( and the IT people may have put a policy into place without telling everyone all the details )

- is the app excluded from Android's Doze Mode? Please see the FAQ look for "app not checking mail" near the end.

And finally, feel free (maybe after checking Doze Mode) - to capture the error in the app's debug log (detailed linked below, in my signature).
