Since yesterday my Hotmail no longer updates in aquamail giving authentication errors. Re-entering password does not help. I have tried to log in via browser which failed saying unusual activity on different country spotted.
True, we are currently on holiday.
I have had to answer many questions and now Microsoft is considering my responses.. in the meantime no access to email.
Anyone else with similar issues? Can it be due to how aquamail signs into Hotmail?

For Hotmail, Aqua uses Hotmail's "more secure" login method called OAUTH2. This is the most secure way to log into an email account.
So it seems to me that Hotmail is unhappy about this:

In another country, I assume? Then it all fits.

Thanks. Having arrived back home it now works fine again.

Hi,
I got the same problem for weeks now. After auth via OAuth2 Aquamail tells me "Connection timed out" and after some tries "Connection refused".
Any chance to get Hotmail/Outlook.com running in Aquamail again?

Hello,
If you experience the problem on WiFi only, please reboot (power down / up) the WiFi router.
If the issues remain, please:
- Long press on the Hotmail account in Aqua Mail
- Account setup
- Tap Manual
- Change server imap-mail.outlook.com to outlook.office365.com (SSL, port 993)
- Tap Next
- Change server smtp-mail.outlook.com to outlook.office365.com (TLS, port 587)
Thank you,
Nadia

I figured it out.
Its the server. Aquamail uses the old server imap-mail.outlook.com etc.
I changed the servers to the new one imap/smtp.office365.com and now everything is working.

Re: Aquamail uses the old server imap-mail.outlook.com
Is it officially the "old" servers - i.e. not supposed to be used anymore?

Under "Apps that support IMAP and POP":
IMAP server name imap-mail.outlook.com
IMAP port 993
IMAP encryption method SSL
POP server name pop-mail.outlook.com
POP port 995
POP encryption method SSL
SMTP server name smtp-mail.outlook.com
SMTP port 587
SMTP encryption method TLS
Those are the exact settings we use in Aqua.
If you have any sort of "official" information (help page, MS's support forums, etc.) that imap-mail / smtp-mail are now "old" and "retired", please let us know.

I don't have accounts there, so, I cannot check authentication on the "old" servers. But I just checked, - both imap-mail.outlook.com and smtp.outlook.com do respond on the respective ports.

Thank you! Just started to use Aquamail and I just couldn't connect to my outlookmail. With these Settings it worked now and I could log in :).
With the default i just got every time a "failed to connect" (timeout?).

Re: both imap-mail.outlook.com and smtp.outlook.com do respond on the respective ports
Yep, they work here too (from Russia) and the affected users seem to be mostly in Germany, and one particular ISP who apparently messed up the DNS for those server names.
So I don't have any reason to believe that "imap-mail...." and "smtp-mail..." are "old", they're just messed up for some users and it does not look like an intentional change by Microsoft, a temporary glitch (network infrastructure bug) is more likely.
