Title: Question on Play Store update
Post by: Geezer on March 14, 2017, 02:00:01 am
I recently downloaded version 1.8.2-203 to see what all the UI fuss was about.  It was the first time I've downloaded the app and installed outside of the store.  My wife, who has the identical phone and OS and had a much older version received 1.8.2-216 four days ago but I've not received that update via the store.  Is that because I have 1.8.2 and I won't get a store update until 1.8.3?  Or is it more complicated than that?

Since version 1.8.2-216 was finally released on 8th March 2017 (viewable for all users on Play store) you are supposed to see this version in the Play store. Even if you have installed a build from the forums development section before.

However, if this is not the case yet you can download this version version right here:

1.8.2-203 was never released to Play, so I assume you installed it by "sideloading" (not though Play).

1.8.2-216 was (released to Play).

Now Play is supposed to notify you and then update even if you are running a "sideloaded" version: we sign all builds with same cert, use same package name.

But I guess sometimes it doesn't.

There is not going to be an 1.8.3, we're working on the next "big" update, 1.9 (and there are dev builds for that already).

Yes, that's correct.  My mistake I guess.

I'd like to get back into the Play installation process, but I'm not sure what I need to do to accomplish that.  I don't want to uninstall the app and lose my account and many UI settings.  Am I now stuck  in "sideloading" mode?

I don't think you're stuck.

The build you sideloaded (203) used same "internal" version "code" (not the human readable "1.8.2-203", rather an internal "change number") -- as the 216 which actually went into Play.

Once we start posting 1.9 into Play, both the "human readable" and "change number" versions will be different compared to what you got now, and Play should notice that.

I would recommend signing up for our "official test" versions on Play:

No, thanks.  Just want to stick with released Play versions.  Will await the 1.9 release.

Are those dev builds late beta's? Or also early alpha's?

According to Play the most recent public version is: March 8, 2017
On my phone is version 2017-03-02 14:14
That's 6 days older but still Google Play doesn't offer me updates

The most recent stable version 1.8.2-216 was released on March 8, 2017, which is available at Google Play Store and also here in the forum:

On the App's 'official' download page you will find a "paypro" version 1.8.2-217 (which includes a direct purchase link and its own update checker) :

The version number could be correct, but i can't really verify that because Google Play only mentions the release date.
The date isn't matching.

According to the app it is March 2
According to Google play it is March 8

You should try to 'override' the installed version with this one from the forums (development section):

Note:
It's not necessary to uninstall the current version prior, since it is the same version / build number.

I installed (sideloaded) the app.
Works fine as all AM versions but both date and version number remain unchanged.
The date still doesn't match the date on Google Play.
Maybe one of the dates is wrong. Just a typo.
