Hi,
I believe that since installing Aqua-Mail Pro on my Samsung, I no longer receive LED notifications on my device (Samsung S7 Edge with Nougat 7.0).
All settings appear correct, yet the LED does not work.
Only time it works is when I am charging my phone.
I will continue to test this, but I am keen to know if anyone else is experiencing this as well.
Thanks.

As far as I know, Android 7 is "weird" when it comes to the LED. I'm sure the app "requests" it same as before, but --
On my Nexus 5X, there is an additional item in the phone's Settings, labeled "Pulse the LED light" which has to be enabled, and until it is, the phone will flash the LED *only if* a notification includes a sound / vibration.
Maybe Samsung kept this "improvement" in their Android 7. I can't check, my Galaxy S6 is still on 6.0.

In addition, I believe Samsung phones have some sort of "battery saver" feature (or used to), which suppresses vibration and the LED in notifications. Don't know if this is part of Samsung's Android 7, but perhaps also worth investigating.

Just to let you know:
In german subforum "AquaMail" of android-hilfe.de we had this same situation on a S7 (Android 7 Nougat)
http://www.android-hilfe.de/thema/aqua-mail-mit-galaxy-s7-keine-led-benachrichtigung-nach-android-7-update.820594/
Enabling sound or vibration did it for that user.

Re: In german subforum "AquaMail" of android-hilfe.de
Wow, there is a "german forum about Aqua Mail" :) !!!
Re: Enabling sound or vibration did it for that user
I really don't understand some of the Android changes Google's been making lately...
-
Wow, there is a "german forum about Aqua Mail" :) !!!
Of course, this where we try to give some little support for german-speaking users (other user name for me btw) 100 threads so far... ;)
And again by the way:
Number of complaints about new design in that subforum = 0 :D

:) Was glad to learn about it.

And this is great news too!

Samsung + Android 7 + LED specifically:
https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Product-Updates/Announcement-Nougat-7-0-Update-Problems-UPDATED-03-10/td-p/72499
03/10: LED Indicators automatically were defaulting to "Off" when
update initally rolled out. You will want to make sure that it has
been toggled back on, cache has been cleared, and that a full restart
of your device has been done. For those still experiencing not LED on
notifs, check those individual applications to make sure that
notifications haven't been toggled off completely, or at least LED
ones. More updates to come on this for those still having this with no
resolution from this.

Hi, now I'm on Android 7 myself (on Samsung S8).
And I'm experiencing the same issue. LED notification of AquaMail is only working, if I had set a notification sound.
Surprise:
LED for Tapatalk's notifications is working, though I disabled sound and vibration for notifications.
Don't know why...
-
Yeah, fine device... :) New device after 2 years...
And behavior differs (though settings are the same). Example:
On my Samsung Tablet (Android 7.0) a notification of AquaMail shows e.g. three messages in only one notification. If I tap an action in this expanded notification, it works for all three messages.
On Samsung S8 it's different: If I pull down the notification bar, the notification will be divided in three separate notifications. Everyone of them can be expanded and has it's own actions to tap.
Don't know yet wether I like this behavior or not... Depends on the folder...
-
For your information - here you can see the different behavior of notifications for the same messages in same folder:
Samsung Tablet T813 (Android 7.0):
There is only one notification, the folder name "Abo" is mentioned. Only one action bar for both messages.
See first screenshot.
Samsung S8 (Android 7.0)
Three different states, see numbered screenshots. Folder name is not mentioned.
Screenshots:
1. When just pulled down the notification bar a little bit
2. When pulled it further
3. When maximum size of notification bar is reached
You see action bar separately for every message.
(And of course no LED notification).

Re: And I'm experiencing the same issue. LED notification of AquaMail is only working, if I had set a notification sound.
This appears to be a deliberate change made by Google in Android 7.
I'm sure some User Experience Committee decided it was an Improvement.
Now a Nexus 5x has a setting to "always pulse the LED" which makes it work even if there is no sound or vibration.
Maybe the Samsung has one too?
Anyone wants to ask Samsung support about it?
Re: For your information - here you can see the different behavior of notifications for the same messages in same folder:
App settings -> message notifications -> smart watch enhancements if enabled will get you Android Wear style notifications (separate "item" per message) for Android 7+.

Thank you, this was very important for me.
I created a backup on Android 6.0.1 and imported it in Android 7. This new option you mentioned was AFAIR enabled by default. Now I disabled it.

No notifications on my Swift all settings in both Android and Aquamail seemed to be ok.
But I found a solution that works for me.
There are 2 sets of setting.
I configured everything in by pressing on the three dots on the screen that show the list: Inbox, Drafts, Sent, etc
Then I long pressed on my account in the same screen. (my email address)
Special settings -> Message notifications -> Switch it off
That solved it for me.
But still a bit strange because in that configuration, notifications were on too.

Yes, 'Special settings' in Account-specific settings (= long-press on account name) will overwrite the app's general settings (= 3-dots icon in the app's main screen / account list view -> Settings -> (e.g.) Message notifications
-
I know mikeone.
But the special settings were configured to show notifications too.
The only difference is that sound isn't on in special notifications.
But the 'sound bug' was mentioned before in this thread.
Perhaps a good workaround for those that don't want sound, is to include an extremely low/no volume ringtone?
-
I only know that Aqua always sets the LED in its notifications when it's set to (through app settings / optional account settings), except when using a "nights / weekends" mode and that has "no LED" enabled.
But yes some phones are "weird" -
- Android 7 seems to only flash the LED *if* there is a sound or vibration
- On Nexus 5x there is a phone setting to "always flash the LED", on others I've not seen such
- HTC (M10) flashes the LED without requiring a sound
- Samsung S8 (also Android 7) also flashes the LED even when there is no sound / vibration....
-
Can you please get LED notification working on the Samsung Galaxy S8. This type of notification is a great feature and is sorely missed.

Re: please get LED notification working on the Samsung Galaxy S8
Just for the record - my everyday personal phone is a Galaxy S8 (European Retail version GSM / LTE).
I have its "always on display" enabled, and not sure if I'm getting the LED from Aqua or from Gmail (for missed calls, maybe).
Maybe that's a feature of that feature -- since with always on, notifications icons are visible at all times. Maybe.
Google-ing for "Samsung S8 LED" brings up quite a few discussions, e.g.:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/help/led-notification-light-t3603878
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/help/led-light-samsung-s8-t3599300
---
And yes, Aqua will "ask" Android to flash the LED -- but if a particular phone model / Android version / etc. has a bug or an "enhancement" and doesn't flash the LED anyway, well...
-
I have the same problem on my OnePlus 3 with Android 7.1.1
Every other app seems to get it right.
Why not Aquamail?
-
Unfortunately I don't own any OnePlus devices. Maybe you could ask OnePlus support about it.

okay, it really seems to be an Android 7 bug.
I got it to work again, somewhow ...
After I have fiddled a bit with the aquamail-settings, like turning on vibration and selecting a notification sound and enabling that sound and disabling everything afterwards again, I suddenly have the led notification back working again. Don't know what triggered the "fix" but well, it works again. ;)

I too noticed the LEDs no longer flashing.
In the Look and Feel section there are a number of Notification settings. (It was not easy to find them; they ought to be under Message Notifications.)
I turned off Notification icon during sync and push, and Notify about ongoing operations, and the LED came back.
Also in Message Notifications, is there a setting to turn sound notifications off? I couldn't find one, so made a silent WAV file and am using that.

That's an interesting new discovery. Needs more investigation...

Re: I turned off Notification icon during sync and push, and Notify about ongoing operations, and the LED came back.
Pretty weird. The "sync / push" notification uses an entirely different Notification ID (identifier) from the "you got mail" notifications.
@toolworker - what's the phone make / model / Android version?

It's a Galaxy S7 model SM-G930T, Android 7.0.
I turned "Notification icon during sync and push" back on, and the LED continued working. So maybe turning it off just shook something loose, or maybe it was something else that got it to start working.
Sorry I can't provide a repeatable case. But it would be interesting to know if someone else can get the LED to work again using the sync and push setting.
But just to repeat and add to my comments about the settings:
- Is there a way to turn off the sound in Message Notifications? There should be.
- Notification settings in Look and feel are hard to find and should be moved to Message Notifications
- Is there a way for mail LED to be solid on and not blink? There should be.

Just to clarify the second point:
These "notification settings" are not related to message notifications. Therefore the section "Look and feel" seems to be reasonable, at least for me... 8)

Just to clarify the second point:
These "notification settings" are not related to message notifications. Therefore the section "Look and feel" seems to be reasonable, at least for me... 8)
The notification settings I'm referring to are:
- Notification icon during sync and push
- Notify about ongoing operations (loading and sending messages/attachments)
- Notify about completed operations (message/attachment loading)
I think it's reasonable to put them in Message Notifications because:
- These are all related to message sending and receiving.
- If a user is looking for notification settings, they are more likely to find them under Message Notifications than Look and Feel
-
I know, I have marked these three items (with a blue square) in my previous screenshot.
And these items are more likely 'toast messages' about ongoing operations in the app itself (look and feel / the app's UI) no notifications about receiving new messages -> 'Message notifications',... in Android's notification system.
= Different types of functionality
Maybe the developer could explain better.

This is how I solved this problem: I checked the "High priority notifications" box and now my LED flashes even when both sound and vibration are "off". I have a Sony Xperia X Compact and Android 7.1.1.
-
I got the notification light back on the Galaxy S7 by Settings (Android, not AquaMail), Notifications, Advanced, AquaMail, then turn off Show Silently.
This works with AquaMail Settings / Message notifications / Vibration turned off.
Is there a way to turn Message notification / Sound off? I couldn't find it - when I touch Sound the File Manager comes up - so I use a silent .wav file.
-
Re: I checked the "High priority notifications" box and now my LED flashes even when both sound and vibration are "off
Right, "high priority notifications" also require a sound / vibration and Aqua Mail has had code to set a "dummy" vibration pattern for those if necessary.
Re: I got the notification light back on the Galaxy S7 by Settings (Android, not AquaMail), Notifications, Advanced, AquaMail, then turn off Show Silently.
Yeah and the $64,000 question here is - what's the connection between "show silently" and the LED?
Did someone at Samsung or Google mix up "sound" and "vision"?
---
As far as I remember, our current 1.15.0-dev build (under "Development builds") already has the workaround for LED on Android 7, the dummy zero-duration vibration if needed.
