Title: Any news on Android Wear support.
Post by: StefanX on September 10, 2014, 06:00:17 pm
Hi,
some time ago i read about your plans to support Android Wear in future releases. Are there any news on that subject?

Thanks for info in advance.

Actually own an Android Wear device now (went for LG).

Just finished (I hope) releasing 1.5.0.

Have done some work on it, but not very much. Should be better now, with 1.5.0 done.
Title: Android Wear support on Moto 360
Post by: Soko on November 06, 2014, 06:54:10 pm
Hello Kostya,

I have now my moto 360 for some days and I'm very pleased about how you've integrated AquaMail into wear.

It works like a charme. Thank You!  :)

But as users are never fully satisfied...
...just some wishes are left:

If I swype a Message on the watch to the left I have the posibilies to
answer - delete - mark read - move to spam.

Ciao,
Joachim

Congratulations, I think it makes you the first (and probably the only) user who's tried it.

On "star" and "reorder" -- wrote down.

On keyboard input -- probably not... :)

I *think* if you're going to fiddle with something, you might as well pull the phone out of your pocket, and type much more comfortably.

You can reply via voice input, have you tried it?

One other thing I've written down -- but not done yet -- is to provide a customizable list of voice reply actions -- I think it makes voice recognition work better, and would make it easier to reply with things like "I'll get back to you later" or "On my way, be there soon", whatever..

Kostya, if I had an android wear smart watch I would have tried it. It is tempting to get one, but still a bit too expensive.
I'll wait for the second generation (and hopefully a bit more affordable)

Hello Kostya,

> Congratulations, I think it makes you the first (and probably the only)
> user who's tried it.

I think - and hope - I'm not the only user...
...and I do not only try, but use it :-)

You integrated Aquamail so smooth into wear and don't promote that the reason for that integration is your work, that users may think it's a wear function...

You should list Aquamail in the Wear stores as wearready. ;-)

> On "star" and "reorder" -- wrote down.

These two are my marjority wishes... :-))

> On keyboard input -- probably not... :)

Was just a sugestion with very low priority. Btw. minuum keyboard isn't ready at the moment.

> You can reply via voice input, have you tried it?

Yes I've tried it. it works, but I need another input posibility because in many situatons I can't talk to my watch and also can't use the phone.

> I *think* if you're going to fiddle with something, you might as well
> pull the phone out of your pocket, and type much more comfortably.

> One other thing I've written down -- but not done yet -- is to provide a customizable list of voice reply actions --

That's a real great Idea and I actualy have a sms app pn my watch witch provides this funktionality too...

But I would prefer if you could choose the answer with a touch /swype instead of choosing it per voice.

> I think it makes voice recognition work better, and would
> make it easier to reply with things like "I'll get back to you
> later" or "On my way, be there soon", whatever..

Yes and no...

As I'm used to diktate for transcription or to Dragon naturaly speaking, at the moment I'm not very happy with the german google voice recognition. And on the other hand there are many situations where I can't talk to my watch, but I'm able to touch and/or swype.

Btw it would be perhaps an idea to use Icons on the watch with an other funktion if you hold it instead of just tap it...

Thanks again for your work!

Joachim

>> prefer if you could choose the answer with a touch /swype instead of choosing it per voice

Not sure how this can work... technology wise. I'll think about it but...

This is what's wrong with both Wear and Sony watch SDK's -- they give you a predefined set of behaviors, or you can write an app that completely takes over the UI. Nothing in between.

I would prefer to be able to let the system do most the work, but then to be able to add my code just in some places, where I need it. This would be easy to program, consistent with watch UI updates, and yet more flexible than it is now.

Oh well (that's my general gripe about the Android SDK too).

Shouldn't I be able to read the full email on my Sony SW3? Because with a gmail card a tap on the preview will open the complete mail while with aquamail I can only see the first lines. This renders the answer function somehow useless because if I can't see what the sender wrote I can't answer.
Title: Full mail preview
Post by: Soko on November 12, 2014, 11:04:49 am
Hello,

If You tab on the mailpreview on Your watch, you should see a longer preview...

But I think too, it wouldn't be bad to be able to read the whole mail on the watch. Perhaps by tapping on the longer peview?

Even then the preview is not longer than 13 lines (including header) which is a roughly 40 words on my Sony. Using Gmail app is not really an option since even the new 5.0 which supports other accounts than gmail is too crappy. Just got a mail today where I couldn't klick on an URL  since gmail didn't recognize it as such. In Aquamail no problem. However, a tab on the gmail-card on my watch gives me the complete content. Maybe Kostya can introduce this functionality in Aquamail, too.

Thorsten

What exactly do guys (gals?) mean by "full content"?

Yes, I some clipping -- since my LG Watch is not nearly the size of a plasma television, don't know about others.

So would "full" -- in your book -- mean "no limit whatsoever, even if it's a 10K or 100K message"? Would you actually use it that way?

Or is there some larger clip limit that we can agree on?

Waiting for feedback.

no limit whatsoever, even if it's a 10K or 100K message

thats depends on why the mail is so large. It makes no great sense to show pictures and attachements on the watch but I want to be able to read even longer texts on the watch, so I'd like to have no llimit for the mailtext if that would be possible.

I meant text -- 10K, 100K?

How do you do this on that dinky screen? Can you post a video on youtube? :)

I'll try to make it display more.

Hello Kostya,

when I look at the size of the mails I get, I think 100k of text would be enough.

I'll post a video later this day.

I second Joachim's request. 100k should be fine. Pics and other attachments are not needed, of course.

I second Joachim's request. 100k should be fine. Pics and other attachments are not needed, of course.

1 character = 1 byte. So, about 1000 characters equal 1 kilobyte. If a page has 2000 characters on it (a reasonable average for a double-spaced page), then it will take up 2K (2 kilobytes). That means it will take about 50 pages of text to equal 100k. If a page has 4000 characters (single-spaced), then it will take about 25 pages of text to equal 100k.

So, what size seems sufficient on a mobile device ... on a smart watch, not on a tablet

Hello,

mikeone, you're right and you're not ;-)

You reffer to netto mail-sizes of pure textmails. I thougt you have to add the header. And Mails in html or mime should be larger...

Many peaple don't quote just a small part of the mail and so replies often grow bigger an bigger, sometimes the answer are just a couple of words on the end of a long mail (I hate it!).

I just would like to be able to read also longer Mails on my watch...

And before I wrote the quoted post, I had a look in my inbox and many of the mails are shown with a size bigger than 10k.

I don't know, if there is a technical reason for cropping mails send to the watch. If there's no reason. Why should the mail be cropped?

Ciao,
Joachim

Joachim :

Maybe an individual setting simular to the 'mobile data sdttings' could be a solution:

... where the user can define a specific transferring size as default and in addition to that an option within the message view on the watch to reload more text.. if specifically required in individual cases.

Hello,

Maybe an individual setting simular to the 'mobile data sdttings' could be a solution:

that would be the best solution, also for the buttons that are shown on the watch.
But I don't know if that is possible, because as Kostya wrote

they give you a predefined set of behaviors, or you can write an app that completely takes over the UI.

That's 50 pages of *book sized" pages.

Really puts things into perspective, doesn't it? I mean, even a pocket sized book is *much* larger than a smart watch :)

I will need to add a setting (yet another one! yay!) -- but right now, I'm quite busy adding support for Android 5.0's native Material theme.

Okay, as an example what size we are talking about I added a nice spam mail (see below) which I received today (as every day). That's about the all I need to read on my watch. More would be just too much. Must be much less than 100kb.

The font size on my Sony SW3 is very tiny  :P
But seriously: of course you won't need to read that much all the time to catch the idea of an email but the present preview for Aquamail on the other hand is just TOO small.
