Title: AquaMail Notifications for Samsung Gear 2?
Post by: NJRonbo on August 28, 2014, 11:05:55 pm
Will AquaMail send notifications to a Galaxy Gear 2?

I am considering purchasing the watch.

Don't want to go back to using GMAIL for notifications

Can I read emails received through AquaMail and even send replies?

Does this require an additional app purchase outside of the AquaMail app on my Android phone?

Thanks

You should consider Gear Live or any smartwatch with Android Wear if you want to see ut in near future.

Kostya said that he is going to work Android Wear support. Gear 2 is Tizen powered and I think it is low priority for Kostya.

Okay, just for AquaMail I will change my mind and get the Gear Live instead.

Is there AquaMail support now?

Thank you for the response.

I have Gear with Tizen, Aquamail notifications are possible, not to replay. But you know there is a lot of news coming in autumn.. So wait some weeks

Fcasoli,

So you can receive Aqua Mail incoming notifications on the Galaxy Gear and open and read the mail?

Just can't reply?

Yes, you can read some text of the message, note you can reply to sms only with shot and templates phrases only... So not to Whatsapp, Chaton and so on... The Gear is available at very convenient price and is a good device, perfectly integrated.

Well, as far as my plans go...

I'm starting to release the next major update -- 1.5.0 -- to Google Play for everyone in a day or two.

While I'm doing this (and it's not a simple process -- dealing with increased volume of email, fixing any found issues, etc.)...

...I'm going to try and spend some time on Android Wear support.

At this time I have no plans for Samsung's Tizen based devices (Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo... I guess there is a new one too). Since I'm the only developer (and everything else), it's necessary to prioritize.

Kostya,

I was going to get the Galaxy 2 Neo but now decided on the Galaxy LIVE solely based on your email support.

Just for clarification as I have never seen this in action...

Your Google Play smartwatch app will allow notifications to the watch screen -and- the ability to open and read messages from the watch screen?

I guess Galaxy Live is Android Wear based... so that should work too (personally I just bought the LG model).

My intent is to make it work similar to Gmail -- a "stream of cards", one card per message, with sender / subject and *preview* (a few lines) of message text.

There will be buttons to delete / move to spam / mark read, and a button to open the full message on the phone. That's pretty much how my Sony app is.

Kostya,

Bought my first Smartwach today, the Galaxy Live.

I could have gone with the phone that does more -- the Tizen based Gear 2...

...however, my one point of consideration was towards AquaMail.  It is the most essential Android app I use and if you are making an extension for Android Wear, it is well worth the investment I made.

Will await further news of its release.

By the way a request...

Can you work into the Android Wear extension the ability to "buzz" the watch when new mail cards arrive?

Currently I am running two email programs on my Android phone.  One is AquaMail.  The other is CloudMagic.  I am running Cloud Magic because it has cards that enable you to read a good percentage of the message and reply to emails using your voice.  However, it does not make the watch "buzz" when new mail arrives.

I look forward to the day I can get rid of CloudMagic in favor of just running AquaMail for my Android Wear.

Don't know yet -- will know when I've made more progress.

Overall, Android Wear mirrors notifications from the host device, so vibration may be tied to host notifications too. But at this point, it's only a guess.

Please tell me this will include the ability to reply from Wear.

Could you please explain how you will type your respobses on such a small display? For me typing on my mobile phone os already difficult enough... ;-)

Edit:
...as you can see above.

No typing... I would use voice, just as I do now in Gmail.

For those of you considering a wearable...

I have been extremely happy with my Samsung Galaxy Live.

Can't imaging not having one of these watches on my wrist.  The fact that all my most important phone notifications get pushed to the watch is just ultra convenient.  Not having to take my phone out of the pocket is a huge plus.

Right now, to take advantage of email notifications on my Android Wear, I am using Cloud Magic.  It's a free email app that goes on the phone.

It is nowhere as feature-enriched as Aqua-Mail.  It really can't replace Aqua-Mail for my everyday use.  However, at the moment, it is only way to get more detailed email information sent to the watch via "cards."

I am really looking forward to the eventual release of Aqua-Mail for Android Wear.  I can dump Cloud Magic and use my favorite email program to get watch notifications and hopefully reply to emails using voice.

In any event, just wanted to let you guys know that these Android Wear watches are very cool.

Thanks for the heads up. I too plan on getting an Android Wear watch. I'm a couple of months from buying it. In the meantime I'll keep an eye on the discussion in this thread and the progress of Kostya's Android Wear development. The main criteria for my purchase is that the watch fully integrate with all of the AM features Kostya makes available for Android Wear.

I used Cloud Magic for a brief spell before I discovered AM. Needless to say AM far outclasses and out-features Cloud Magic. I was also totally frustrated in my attempts to get them to implement text reflow. Their repeated response was that "it was a matter of preference...some users want it and some don't". Even if some users didn't want it, I found it incredibly hard to swallow that there weren't enough users that wanted it for them to at least offer it as a choice via the settings (Besides who would really rather constantly shift the view back and forth to read a message, than have it reflow into the available view?). Once I got a taste of AM, its rich feature set, the pace of Kostya's development and his level of responsive engagement with his users, I immediately kicked Cloud Magic to the curb.

Unfortunately, looks like I will be leaving Android and AquaMail.

What Apple announced today as far as watch wearable blows everything out of the water.

Worth going back to the iPhone just to have the watch.

Already contacted Gazelle to sell my Note III.  I will miss AquaMail.
