Post by: spacehog on June 24, 2014, 09:00:15 pm
How do I get rid off the new message count bubble on the Aqua icon? It's annoying.

Sorry, it never occurred to me that with so many people requesting this over time -- some would not like it.

I just added a setting to turn it off (under "Message notificaitons"), there will be an update in a day or two, in Play and here on the forum.

You are using unsupported launcher.

This is strange, this one is supported.

Go to Settings -> Message notifications -> Launcher counter icon (enable it if it is already disabled)

This setting was added in a development build, so far only posted on the forum (linked above).

I'm hoping to update Google Play tonight.

Have you received any new message meanwhile?

Lots of new mails.

The bubble looks like in the image below.

It will only show in the standard (TouchWiz) launcher -- or in Apex Launcher, Nova Launcher, Smart Launcher 2.

It will not show in e.g. GO Launcher.

The functions to push the counter are launcher specific, and in the case of manufacturer launchers, are not documented. I didn't have any trouble with it on my Galaxy S4, though. The screenshot is from a Note 3.

Now, to turn this off -- it's in settings under "message notifications", and the setting is labeled:

Startseitensymbol Zähler
Bei bestimmten Startseiten und Hersteller

I think I have a different issue - my new message bubble counter is stuck on 3, even though I have no new messages.  This started today, installed new version yesterday.  Have compacted database and checked settings.

Samsung S5, touchwiz.

@lynn -- my apologies, a mistake on my part, it seemed to make sense at the time, but I didn't think it through and was wrong.

You can fix it in 15 seconds, though -- please see this topic:

Hi

Love the App but we don't want to use the Launcher Icon Counter.
I have an Xperia T and with no tick in the box I don't have the counter however my wife has an s4 mini and the only way I could remove the notification counter was to tick the box.
Is that a bug or have I got something wrong somewhere?

Thanks              Tom

Hi

I made the basic forum error of not reading other posts before posting myself  :(
Seems my wife had an unread mail when the app updated and the number stuck. After reading the mail and ticking the box to turn the number bubble thing on it cleared. She's turned it off again and even when new mails come through there's no number bubble on the icon.

Sorry to have jumped in feet first.

Yes, explicitly turning the setting off clears the launcher's side of things (by sending an unread of zero), so then it's up to the user to enable it or keep it disabled.

I won't be posting this new version to Google Play tonight, too tired, it will go out tomorrow, Sunday in my time zone.

I want to turn it on!

But it doesn´t work. I resetted my phone, installed everything new. restored the Aquamail - Settings with TitaniumBackup. Everything fine, except my Icon. I want my message-Count back, please.

What´s wrong? Please see attached screenshot.

Thanks,
Epi

This feature is intended for use by Samsung's own apps. When used in a third party app, it may not work.

If there comes a day when Samsung makes this official and supported, I'll treat such cases as a bug.

Until then --

If it doesn't work on a particular Samsung device / firmware flavor, well, just pretend it wasn't there in the first place.

Or switch to Nova, Apex, or Smart Launcher, where this is an officially supported feature.

Or use Aqua's message counter widget.

I wrote a small app that tries to reset any "stuck" badges in TouchWiz.

I've posted it on the downloads page here (it's not in Google Play yet):

http://www.aqua-mail.com/?page_id=217

One user (our of one who tried) reported that it fixed the stuck badge on his Samsung phone.

Sorry to bump this old thread but can I assume there are **NO** unread message counters available on the Moto X (2013 version) running Lollipop 5.1 with stock launcher (and multiple Gmail accounts)?  I read the FAQ and can't seem to enable it so I  am assuming it's not compatible with this device.  Hoping I just missed it.

Edit:  to clarify.  Yes, the Widget works but it won't fit on the "dock" at the bottom of the screen because it is too large.

Only some OEMs implemented support for "app badges/indicators" in their launchers. Motorola didn't do it, so you can't use it. You can install some different launcher which supports this feature.

As for widget issue, can you take screenshot and upload it here or send to Kostya directly? More chances he will be able to fix it.
