-----

Version 1.3.29

+ Per-account option (under IMAP or POP3) to pick up date/time from message headers. Works with IMAP "sync by number of days" too.

+ "Automatic" UI theme with light / dark switching based on time. Experimental, let's see if there is demand for it.

+ "Last used color" icon in rich text editor

+ Fixed kinetic scrolling of wide messages not working.

-----

How to configure this version of AquaMail to work with a migrated mail account (IMAP) where you've uploaded old messages.

Uploading old messages to a new IMAP account (using a mail app like Outlook or Thunderbird) can cause two things to go wrong:

1 - Some mail servers assign the same, current, date/time as the "internaldate" (date/time received) to those uploaded messages.

2 - These mail apps upload messages pretty much in random order, so the uploaded messages won't be sorted by date/time anyway

For 1): since version 1.3.29, AquaMail has a per-account setting to use "Date" message header values rather than "internaldate" values to assign date/time to messages.

For 2): development builds of Aqua have for a while had a per-account setting for IMAP to define how many messages to sync by a number of days; version 1.3.29 can use the "Date" header here too.

Putting it all together:

1 - You will need to add your new, migrated, mail account into Aqua one more time. Before saving the account, do not enable IMAP push yet (even if you would like to use it). It's necessary to adjust a couple settings first.

2 - Back on the main screen, and without tapping the account's sync button, long press the account -> "Options and folders".

3 - Under "IMAP options", change "Which message date/time to download" from "Date/time received" to "Date/time sent".

4 - Back out to "options and folders", open "Account options", and change "Messages to sync" to "By time period", picking some number of days (7 or 10 would be a good start).

5 - Back out to the main screen, tap the account's refresh, then enable push mail if desired.

6 - To delete the old copy of this account, long press it in the account list, choose Delete account.

Not sure I understand. If my existing accounts are already imap in 1.3.28 and I am not migrating any accounts, can I just install this new version as usual? Without doing anything special?

Not sure why the unusual instructions about migration.

Thanks.

Correct -- you can just update.

The instructions above are specifically for this version's new ability to handle migrated accounts with bulk-uploaded old messages.

I apologize for asking a noob question where the answer may be obvious, but I'm not sure what you're referring to by "bulk-uploaded old messages".

Could you please explain?

Right, it's when someone switches from one mail service to another, and uploads his/her old messages into the new account using a desktop mail app like Thunderbird or Outlook, etc.

If you reinstall email client all data is erased including all emails.

Also please provide support for android 4.4.x versions cant access /storage/sdcard1/Aqua_mail_backup dir

due to google's bs locking out sdcard1 rw option.

Thanks Aqua mail user.

@dragon --

- In 2014, it's typical for mail messages to "live" on mail servers...

"cloud storage", blah blah blah, you know :)

- Access to external sdcards is deilberately blocked by Google at system level.

There is no "workaround" -- since it's not a bug from their point of view, it's "working as intended".

And if there was a way to bypass it, *that* would be a bug, and would be fixed (i.e. access closed again).

PS - I'd like me some unicorns, too :)
