Title: A mini how-to on translations - read me please
Post by: Kostya Vasilyev on March 26, 2014, 02:49:26 am
Update Nov 18, 2016:

1. Translations are now handled by MobiSystems, this will make sure that they all stay current and equally complete (but they may not be in every build posted on the forum).

Suggestions for "a better way to translate this phrase here or that one there" are accepted, but please be aware that this is now a "corporate" product --

-- please only do so if you're OK with MobiSystems (not Kostya Vasilyev personally) using your suggested changes.

2. I've "locked" all the old forum topics where translation work was happening before (my posting missing items and people posting their translations), to avoid confusion.

3. To propose an improvement, please make a new topic for your language, something like "language name - improvements" (or suggestions, or whatever) and post them there.

First of all, thanks to everyone who's helping.

I'll be posting missing translations, organized by language, each in its own thread.

Please scroll those threads to the very end to make sure you're looking at the most up-to-date list.

In the translations, please preserve:

--- The "<!-- .... -->" comments.

--- The "<string... >" and "</string>" stuff.

It's not necessary to repeat the original English text.

I will collect and integrate and post updates.

Even one or two translations at a time would be useful, and thanks in advance!

At this time, the app still runs on Android 2.*, and every 50-100 K is a big deal there. Sorry.

I think people which use Android 2.3 are less and less.

Yes, there are fewer and fewer of them every day, but they still make for about 15%, according to Google's statistics.

So every sixth user.

A day *will* come when I can change minSdkVersion to 15 for Aqua, but it hasn't come yet.

AquaMail needs CN translation since there are thousands of users in China. I think translations are more important than keep small apk size for GB users. GB is dead...

I am going to drop Android 2.* support in a while, but not yet.

As for China -- it's nice to have users, but I especially like paying users (since there are no ads). And with Google Play not being available in China... :)

Now that support for older android versions is going to be dropped, is it possible to add other translations (i.e. for Dutch) ?

Yes, are you volunteering?

And before you say "yes" - it's about 2000 items of text.

If interested, contact me at kmansoft / gmail and I'll send you the XML files.
