Title: How do I have notifications displayed on a Galaxy S3 Home screen
Post by: peroinvan on December 29, 2012, 04:45:16 am
Hi,  I just got a Galaxy S3 and downloaded AguaMail last night. Coming from a BB after 6 years, I am lost and have a new learning curve with a touch screen, Android, and now this App. The default mail is not to my liking, in particular no push email. I was able to have the top bar notify me then disappear. Now it seems that I get a vibrate notification when a new email comes in, but now sound. I have the Icon on the front page, but I can't find a way to have notification of mail on my home screen. Is it possible. I went into extended mode, and seem to have lost myself even more. I search some threads, but wasn't successful to find anything at this point. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, seemed I rambled om before.

Question is, On the S3 is there a away to have a notification that there is mail waiting? Since I posted I figured out about the colored lcd, ring, and vibrate. What I am looking for is on the home page when a call or message comes in an icon will appear with the number of messages or missed calls. Both phone and the messenger are part of the S3 software, so I can see that. The default icon for the email will put a number of emails beside it. Will this app do something similar?  Thanks.  Pero

Android doesn't support notifications overlaid on app icons.

Samsung added it for their own apps, but there is no way for my app to access it.

Two suggestions:

1 - Use one of my app's *widgets* (there are two types: a simple counter and a message list)

2 - Install Apex Launcher Pro, enable "External notifiers" in its advanced settings, and you will get the unread count overlay on the app icon

And another one:

My app integrates with Light Flow, which provides advanced LED control for notifications

Oh, and the default, standard Android status bar notifications are supported too, of course.

Hi Kostya,

I have just started using your email client and I am very happy. I have one very minor visual issue with the 1x1 counter widget for Aqua mail on the Galaxy S3. The text under the widget is highlighted with a black background which looks good in stock Andriod but it doesn't sit well with the Galaxy S3 application shortcuts. Would it be possible to have an option or separate widget that removes this background to sit well next to other shortcuts. The larger Widget looks great.

Thanks
Rob

"Droid Notify Plus" will also do this.

No doubt there are others?

I'll see if I can remove the background behind the label if running on Android 4.0+

The trouble with making widgets that look like Launcher shortcuts is that there really is no standard, or a theme/preset I can refer to from the app.

And even standard (firmware) launchers vary quite a bit -- e.g. Sony's Xpera devices do use a background behind the text label.
