Title: [aquamail pro] Problems with push notifications
Post by: Foxtrot82 on January 23, 2014, 11:39:46 pm

Hi,
I have aquamail pro. I'm very happy about the app but lately I'm experiencing problems with push notifications.

Sometimes I get them on the status bar but the counter of unread messages does not appear on the widget

Sometimes I don't get them at all, but when I open the app I see the unread messages immediately (marked with *) even without hitting the refresh button (so it looks as they were actually received, just not notified)

Same happens on both my gmail and my other account.

I don't know if it can help but when I'm experiencing these problems if I try to add another aquamail widget on the home screen it stays stuck in the loading in progress status. If I restart the phone notifications are back as usual (for a while) and widget can be added.

I am using a samsung s4 mini dual with stock android 4.2.2

Do you have any idea what the problem could be? I'm not sure I gave enough information but please tell me if I can give any other info to help identify what is causing the problem

Thank you

I have your device and the big problem I must synchronize manually to receive messages.
So, notification counter doesn’t change until I open Aquamail to update.

I guess this device has very little memory, correct?

For sync, if you turned off the "status bar icon" setting in AquaMail (under look and feel), please turn back on.

Not sure what's wrong with widgets. Have you tried a third party launcher (say, Apex or Nova)?

Hi,
The phone has 1.5 gb of ram.
I was already using the app with the status bar icon turned on and I'm using go launcher.

Does other suggestion come to your mind?
Thanks

I'm having similar issues with AM Pro on my Nexus 7 (2013). Push no longer works. Getting mail is now a total manual process.

Just resolved my push issue. While checking settings I discovered that "Auto-Sync Data" was off. I turned it back on and push notifications are back.

Having the same problem.  Where the heck is the "Auto-Sync Data" setting???

The "auto-sync data" is a system level setting, a system-wide "master kill switch" for all background sync.

The setting is hidden quite well since 4.0 (or 4.1?):

- System settings
- Data usage
- Menu (hardware button or the three dots icon) -> Auto-sync data should be in the menu.

Since it's kind of on-topic, is it safe to use the in-app feature "Sync even when "Auto Sync" is off", while Auto Sync is actually off?

Safe? Well, Android apps are supposed to check this system setting (there is a way to do this, and it's documented) and then not perform any background sync. In my code, I make an exception to this rule, depending on the setting.

Oh, and the initial value is what it is, because even though the default Android setting is to enable background sync, I've seen too many cases where the setting was off.

I guess this may be the result of "let us configure your smartphone for just $24.95" , or five year old kids, who knows? :)

I have been using aquamail pro for the last 6 months on my galaxy s4. Yesterday I changed to the HTC m8. I lost all my messages from the s4 and on top of that.... although I have set up the app in excatly the same way, using the same settings, the same options etc... now the notifications dont come up on the notification centre at all for both my imap and my hotmail or my google accounts, the tones dont play at all, and my imap accounts automatically mark themselves as read before i have even seen them. As I say, the settings are identical to that on my s4, and I dont understand why they are not working at all..... I have all my business emails coming through to this and so far had been happy, but now it is costing me money losing out due to missed emails..... PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

First, on losing emails -- if those are IMAP accounts, your messages, including old ones, should have stayed on their respective mail servers (and the app on the new device should have picked them up).

Second, on the app not receiving mail --

Please check the device's system settings -> data usage -> Menu -> make sure that "Auto-sync data" is enabled.

This is a device's wide "kill switch" for all background sync, and Aqua respects it being off. The setting default to "enabled", but apparently, sometimes it gets switched off by all too helpful sales staff / techs who do initial device configuration when you buy one (just a theory, but...)

Third, does the app receive mail if you use the refresh / sync buttons in the app's UI (as opposed to automatic background sync)?

Finally, feel free to contact me at kmansoft / gmail, so we can have a more expedient discussion.
