Title: Only 16 Emails have been downloaded from the Server

What happened?  I requested in the Settings that 500 emails be downloaded as little by little I was getting less. Finally this morning only 16 Emails show.  I need to check prior Emails. It appears that a lot of my current Emails have been moved to trash. Please let me know how to correct this as there are important Emails that I need!!!
