I thought I had Aquamail configured to honor the system sync settings, but even when my AquaMail account sync is disabled in Android Settings, it still retrieves new messages and generates notifications. How can I correct this?
Here the settings that look relevant:
Settings:Accounts:Auto-sync data: checked
Settings:Accounts:AquaMail (IMAP, POP3):Email: Sync is OFF
AquaMail:Settings:Mail, receiving:System settings: Observe all
AquaMail:Settings:Mail, receiving:Messages to sync: 25 messages
AquaMail:Settings:Mail, receiving:Scheduled sync: checked
AquaMail:Settings:Mail, receiving:Mail check interval: 15 minutes
AquaMail:Settings:Mail, receiving:IMAP Push: unchecked
AquaMail:Settings:Mail, receiving:Event types: None
AquaMail:Settings:Look and feel:Notification icon during sync and push: checked
AquaMail:Settings:Look and feel:Notify about completed operations: checked
AquaMail:Settings:Look and feel:Toast messges: checked
AquaMail:Settings:Message notifications:Enable notifications: checked
AquaMail:Settings:Message notifications:Notify about: All unread messages
AquaMail:Settings:Message notifications:Only when new messages: checked
AquaMail:Settings:Message notifications:Only when there are changes: checked
AquaMail:Settings:Message notifications:LED notifications: checked
AquaMail:My IMAP Account:Account options:Scheduled sync: checked
AquaMail:My IMAP Account:Account options:Include in "Sync All": checked
AquaMail:My IMAP Account:Account options:IMAP Push: checked
AquaMail:My IMAP Account:Account options:Messages to sync: Default (25 messages)
AquaMail:My IMAP Account:Account options:IMAP options: Enable optimizations: checked
AquaMail:My IMAP Account:Account options:IMAP options: IMAP Push session duration: 1 hour
This is on an Xperia Z1 Compact running recent CyanogenMod 12.1 nightly builds. I currently have cm-12.1-20151023-NIGHTLY-amami installed.

The accounts added by AquaMail into system settings -> accounts are "fake", and individual per-account sync checkboxes there do nothing.
To turn off sync for a specific account:
Long press it (the account) in Aqua's main window -> options and folders -> account options -> turn off "scheduled sync" and/or "IMAP push" and/or "Include in sync all".
The "observe system settings" check the device-global "yes, I want background sync" found in system settings -> accounts.
My apologies for the confusion.
It's just that Android's "sync" framework is kind of "meh" in my opinion, so AquaMail doesn't use it to perform mail sync.

I see. In that case, maybe it would help avoid confusion if the name or description of those fake accounts had some text indicating that their settings do nothing?

"Attention, the checkboxes here do nothing" just might not fit on that screen...
Besides, it would have to go into "account name" -- and I don't think it would be nice.

Yes, I see your point. If I were to try it, I'd probably use minimal text. Maybe something like "Account Name (placeholder)". If that didn't work out, I guess I'd have to live with the support requests caused by the confusion. :)

This is the first support request about it so far, actually. I can live with that :)
