Title: Gmail access problems recent
Post by: someone on June 04, 2016, 04:49:07 pm
I access my Gmail account via AquaMail, which has worked fine until a couple of days ago when I suddenly became unable to login to my Gmail account. The problem turned out that I now need to allow access to the Gmail account in Gmail settings in a "less secure" way. Once I changed my settings in Gmail to permit less secure access, AM was again able to download my Gmail messages.

This is a recent change. Not sure if it is something in the new version of AM or if Google changed something. Obviously I would prefer the more secure setting. My Gmail account in AM currently uses ssl to download my Gmail messages with the "less secure" setting in Gmail.

What is happening?

This "issue" is not really a new one. Please have a look into this thread which could be helpful for you:

Thank you. It just appeared on my phones after years of AM use.

Yep.

A new Gmail account these days has "allow less secure apps" turned off from the start.

Existing accounts have been getting this change gradually for the last year or even longer (can't be sure now), without informing the users... Guess they think the error message makes it obvious enough :)
