Title: Delete permanently
Post by: Bulldog on August 30, 2017, 07:25:53 pm
AquaMail has a setting to "Delete permanently" which immediately deletes a message from the phone and the server.

I use POP3 for an email account that I share with my wife. Our POP3 account is setup to keep messages on the server unless one of us signs in to our email provider's website and deletes messages from there. Will AquaMail's "Delete permanently" override this setting and delete messages from the server?

Do you mean some sort of mail server setting?

Aqua won't know anything about it -- so it will still use the "one and only" command for deleting messages that POP3 has.

What happens after that is - up to the mail server / service settings.

The app won't try to "overrule" it somehow, but I can't guarantee what the mail server / service is going to do.

I'd say - it's best to test.

'Delete permanently' means the message will be deleted immediately (and permanently) both on the phone and on the server.

If there are any 'advanced' settings on the server, this functionality is "up to the mail server", as already mentioned by @Kostya.

FWIW the email provider of my POP3 account is Comcast in the USA (which is also known as Xfinity.)

I tried this experiment in AquaMail:

In the Inbox I deleted a message 'permanently.'
In the Deleted folder I deleted a message 'permanently.'

After allowing 5 minutes to pass, to give Aqua an opportunity to communicate with my POP3 server, I went directly to my email account online. Both messages were still present.

I agree that we need to experiment because different email servers work differently. In my case, deleting messages 'permanently' in Aqua does not remove them from the POP3 server.

Right, so this provider-specific option is working then, "protecting" messages from email apps:
