Title: Multiple sent messages displayed if conversations across folders enabled
Post by: Justin on March 17, 2018, 04:57:16 pm
Hello, I am encountering a problem (Gmail account) on three devices:

Every sent messages in folder "Sent" are displayed twice (see screenshot).

This happens, if in settings > conversations, the option to combine across folders is enabled.
(FYI: In account setting > Send and Compose, the option for storing sent messages in sent-folder is disabled).

If I disable "combine across folders", the issue is gone immediately.

Furthermore: If a sent message gets another label XY by gmail filtering system, is message will show up three times in sent folder after next sync.

I suppose, reason is that messages are stored by Gmail in three IMAP-folders:
Sent, All messages and Label XY.

It's possible to exclude "All messages" in settings for conversations, but this will not help, if the message has other labels.

Can we hide the multiple displaying of the same identical message?

PS: Sorry, screenshot are in german language. Switching to english is not possible anymore.

First of all, I recommend to disable "In Archive Folders" (Settings > Conversations > Section 'Presentation')

In the screenshot below you will see my settings which are working as intended - no duplicates in conversation view - with my Gmail account.

Yes, sad but true - Aqua Mail isn't really aware of Gmail labels, and Gmail's IMAP will report a message as appearing in multiple folders (= label). Sorry.

Thank you!

Yes, this is what I mentioned above, too. I used the words "All messages" instead of "archive folders", sorry.

But this does not really help, I will try to explain more exactly - even disabled "In Archive Folders":

- If I send a message and choose a specific sender XY, then Gmail filtering (customized by me) will assign a specific label named "XY" on this message.

- Or: Often I select an entire conversation (including sent messages) and assign a label

After next sync, AquaMail will show multiple of the same sent messages in sent-folder and in folder "XY".

Imagine a conversation of 10 messages, 5 sent by me: Now it consists of 15-20 messages, when viewing in AquaMail. Difficult for me, especially in business cases.

I hope that it is now easier to understand.

And it would be great, if AquaMail would recognize those identical messages and hide the duplucates.

@Kostya Thank you, too.

Would at be possible for AquaMail to recognize identical messages in conversations (message-id, date, sender, recipient, subject) and hide duplicates?

Yes it would be great but I don't see it happening in the foreseeable future.

That's a pity. Thanks anyway.

... in the foreseeable future.
Maybe the day after? :)
