Title: Show linked images message behaviour.
Post by: beaky on November 27, 2013, 09:23:19 pm
When I receive an email with linked images, a message at the top of the email invites me to "show linked images". If I scroll the email even a tiny amount the message disappears, and does not return unless I view a different email and then return to the one I am concerned with.
If, instead, I simply refresh, or re-select the current email from the list in the left pane, the message does not reappear. I have to view a different message first to get it back.
I can understand that the message disappears by design, as it theoretically covers part of the email, but is it by design that it is so hard to get it reappear?
Could it be designed to not cover part of the email? E.g. by scrolling the email content down.

Funny. The panel is supposed to scroll with message content, not disappear, and that's exactly how it works on all my devices, from 2.3 to 4.4.....

Erm, ooops, I take it back. On my Nexus 5 with 4.4, it does exactly what you've described. Does your device have 4.4?

I'll have to look into it.

Great job Google on breaking WebView in 4.4 in all kinds of ways "to make it better" (no doubt!).

Not just my opinion either:

Hello,

Believe I fixed the issue with panels embedded inside web view content...

I tested on 4.4, 4.3, 4.2 and 4.0.4. We'll see how long this lasts, until Android 5.0 or maybe a "hotfix" update to 4.4? :)

Can you try this build and report back?

Other changes for today: the message header has become considerably easier to use.

- It now has kinetic scrolling (important for when there is a long recipient list);
- Limits its max. height to a portion of the enclosing area;
- Toggling between short and full mode can be done by tapping on pretty much any empty area not taken by text.

Yes I am using 4.4.
The new build keeps the message if you scroll. It scrolls off the top, but when you pull it back, the message is still there, and functions correctly, as far as I can see.
I cannot determine if it still covers some text or not. This would only matter to someone who did not want to download the linked content.

More info.
Yes, it does cover some text at the top of the body.
Also, the "save as known" message does this too. If I do not want to save as known, then part of the body is covered permanently. Either the body needs to be scrolled to make room, or the save as known needs a "no" button.

Thanks for the info. I can see the covering on my Nexus 5 now.

I can almost feel ecstatic glee radiating from Mountain View:

"We broke even more apps with the new version! Woo-hoo! A round of beer for everyone!"

Suddenly I don't feel alone in having odd effects from a number of apps after this update....
