Title: IMAP email is missing sent, draft and trash folders
Post by: teaguew on August 23, 2016, 10:10:06 pm
Hello. I host a few web sites on Dreamhost. When I add the accounts on AquaMail (android Lollipop OS) , I only see the inbox and junk mail.  It works fine in the default Android "Email" app, but I prefer AquaMail.

Please help!

Thanks.

Please, read "How do I access server side folders?" in the FAQ: http://www.aqua-mail.com/?page_id=227
I hope that helps.

AquaMail tries to map those "special" folders based on their names and also based on the IMAP "XLIST" extension. Guess it's running into trouble with both.

"other mail apps" --> can't speak for all of them, but e.g. K9 (based on an old snapshot of stock Android Email) will *create* folders using English names like Drafts and Sent and Deleted on the server if it thinks it has to. Not sure if it's the best solution.

Back to AquaMail:

1 - Please use web mail and make sure that your account does have Drafts / Sent / Deleted folders (just in case) and that they're accessible over IMAP (this part is mail provider specific, for example Gmail lets you turn IMAP access on and off, per folder)

2 - In AquaMail, long press the account -> options and folders -> folders

- Let it refresh

- Find the server side Deleted folder, tap its name, choose "Sync with Deleted"

- Same with Drafts and Sent

- Back out to the main screen, which should now have those "special" folders visible

I was unable to see the missing folders on the server side.

Curiously, my wife's AquaMail COULD see the folders. We have identical phones and OS. The only difference was I have the AquaMail Pro Unlocker.

I uninstalled the Unlocker and can now see the missing folders. I can still see all accounts (more than the two that the free AquaMail allows). What do I lose by uninstalling the Unlocker?

Please check the headline in the app's main window (account list view). If you are seeing "AquaMail Pro" then you have still all benefits of the 'unlocked' Pro version.  8)

Re: Curiously, my wife's AquaMail COULD see the folders. We have identical phones and OS

And identical -- same -- account?

Please long press the account on the "bad" version and choose Options and Folders.

If you see "POP3 options" (and not "IMAP options") it means the account is set up using POP3 which does not provide access to server folders by its nature.

PS - IMAP and POP3 are different ways for mail apps to connect to mail servers.

PPS - to switch from POP3 to IMAP, you will need to remove the account (set up as POP3) from the app by long press -> Delete account, and then add back, for most if not all mail services, the app's default is to try to use IMAP.
