Title: imap push
Post by: nadir husain on December 10, 2015, 06:09:32 pm
hi kostya -  i am using aquamail pro with one gmail and two imap accounts all set to push.  after playing around a little bit i have discovered that i get real push (with no delay)  only under the following  conditions  on 3G
push mail keep alive =10 minutes
imap push session duration = 30 minutes
if i increase the time on either of these options my push becomes unreliable.  i am not complaining.  the app is working beautifully.  just wanted to make sure this is normal.  K9 ( from where i migrated)  only had one setting " refresh  interval"  which i had to have set at 6 minutes or less.  anything higher and my push would go awry.  thanks

The IMAP spec only guarantees that IDLE connections can be alive for 30 minutes (and recommends subtracting another 5 minutes to be safe). So I'm not surprised about "30 minutes". Most servers will hold IDLE connections open longer, this is good.

The "6 minute refresh" in K9 Mail corresponds to the setting which you have at "30 minutes" in AquaMail -- a full closing and reopening of the connection.

The "10 minutes" (keep alive) setting in AquaMail corresponds to something which does not exist in K9 Mail.
