Title: Forwarded RFC822 mails don't display
Post by: doctorow on November 29, 2012, 06:06:05 pm
Mail forwarded as message/rfc822 attachment isn't displayed properly in Aqua Mail. Instead of displaying the attached content inline, as other clients do (for instance K9/Kaiten), Aqua shows the email with empty content and the attached content as an attachment (with the .eml extension).

Version tested: Aqua Mail Pro 1.2.0.4

I'm guessing POP3?

I'm planning to work on this after releasing the upcoming 1.2.0.5.

IMAP actually.

Ah. Well, for IMAP, parsing into message/rfc822 is the mail server's responsibility, according to RFC 3501 (Gmail, AOL, FastMail, Yahoo -- all do this).

http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3501#section-6.4.5

A part of type MESSAGE/RFC822 also has nested part numbers,

Kostya, I believe Cyrus Imapd (the IMAP server we're using) is correctly parsing it. My guess is that Aqua Mail is somehow incorrectly fetching/interpreting the mail parts as parsed by the server. We have not experienced issues with RFC822 forwards with any other clients, including Outlook, Thunderbird, various webmails including Roundcube and Horde IMP, Apple Mail, and also K9.

If you like, I could see if there is an example mail that I could redirect to you. Redirecting should allow to keep the mail structure intact.

K-9 and the built-in Email don't rely on the server to parse message structure, their use of IMAP is like POP3 in this regard.

Still -- yes, please forward one of these to my personal email (kmansoft / gmail).

Hello,
any news on this topic?
The "problem" is still there in 1.2.4.0
Do you need further examples?

Quoting Kostya from an email:

There should be a new build in a day or two with support for messages attached as .eml files... Both POP3 and IMAP.
I think this will first be a developer build which can be downloaded here in the forum.

Thanks guys :)

@doctorow -- BTW, I also (finally!) fixed push mail resetting the position of currently open message lists, a while ago... not sure if I'd mentioned that before.
