Title: Stars and Flags
Post by: crishog on March 20, 2013, 02:11:11 am
I know I can mark emails with stars to indicate ones I want to stand out, but have I imagined this or does it remember something about the emails I've tagged? It seems that further emails from the same sender are also starred,

If this is the case, great, I'm not complaining!

Also some mails are displayed with a red flag, but I can't work out what rule it is using to do this: is there some documentation I'm missing?

I just thought of another question: looking at a video on YouTube it seems that the widget scroll the list: does this depend on which version of android is running on the phone?

Dunno about you first issue, but I do remember that Android only started supporting scrolling widgets natively from Honeycomb (v3)

Prior to that (v2.3 and older) you needed a custom launcher to enable scroll effects.

Stars should only affect one message - I've never seen them affect more... If this is Gmail, maybe you're seeing the same message in multiple folders, as each Gmail label is mapped to an IMAP folder by their server.

Rachel is completely right about widgets.

I'd just like to add that even though there are third party launchers that support scrolling on Android 2.3, my app has no support for them (there are two code paths already, for non-scrolling in stock 2.1 - 2.3, and for scrolling in 3.0 onward.....)

I had the feeling that the scrolling was down to the version of Android. I was just wondering if (being new to using Aqua mail) I was missing some setting.

With the stars, it was probably down to me playing with Aqua mail & forgetting that I'd manually starred two mails not one from the same person.

Any hints on the meaning of the flags displayed against some emails?

There are several types of flags:

- A little red flag indicates a "high importance" message, as set by the sender

- Little grey arrow icons indicate messages that you've replied to, or forwarded (left - reply, right - forward, to match the respective action icons for replying / forwarding when viewing a message)

Ah! it is the sender who sets the flag: now I understand I thought it was a rule within my local Aqua mail & couldn't see a pattern.

Thanks for the clarification.

The red flag, yes, sent by the sender. Gmail's web mail doesn't show it (just want to point it out in case you wanted to cross-check).

The blue stars are set by you, and will be seen in Gmail web mail, and are synced with IMAP servers (not POP3).

ahaa interesting!
I also had no idea where this red flag was for, I thought it was a spam indicator as all red flagged emails I received where spam.

Thanks for the clarification.
