Title: Design
Post by: Thomas on April 16, 2013, 04:24:15 am
Well i am always coming back to agua mail, love its features and design.
Just one wish.
It has such a nice nearly minimalism, nearly holo design, but i see the reload/refresh buttons beside the account name enormous large. Also the unread message counter with its blue background is kind of disturbing. Well my opinion ;)
Would you consider to make this more simple in bold black when new messages arrive and the refresh button also in a more simple black?  That would be in my eyes a perfect design.

Good point. I've been getting rid of the old (like, before version 1.2) roundy gradienty touchy feely stuff as I find time to work on it...

How about the same refresh icon as used in the icon bars, would that be too repetitive? Or just right, since it's consistent.

Here is a rough test, just trying things out... It seems some sort of background is needed for the per-account unread counts, so they visually stand out from the folders. It does look cleaner and more modern, though.

Also attaching - a couple of message list screenshots (all the messages there are "read", and the contact icon is "weird", but that's just what I have for that particular one...)

Just right, in my opinion.
Just love consistency - it always contributes two a intuitive workflow. So, afaic - great  ;)

I liked it the way it was before. It was more clearly laid. Nice, clean, consistent and simply.
It definately needs a background to stand out - you could maybe try a greyish background instead of the blue one - but no need to do so from my side.

Hmm, don't see any differences there to the existing version? What do you want to state with that screenshot?

The message list screenshots have different group headers (the ones with dates), compared to the released version.

I like the posted images. Yes, consistency is preferable and the app needs some perfection in the GUI.
Take a look at the last Mail Droid release. They did a revamp of the GUI that is really quite nice. I'm tempted to switch... :P

Nay, you are not...  ;)
I don't like Maildroid and I prefer Aquamail's design. Different people, different tastes  ::)

I didn't like it either but that was before the redesign.

Re: Mail Droid - I've got the latest version installed, does not seem that different from before, but that's just my impression... It's always been sort of minimalistic, as I recall.

To each his own, then there is Kaiten, too, which has a great design, although it's a bit too "cute" for my personal taste, but it's a fantastic app too.

BTW, I just posted 1.2.3.19, which has the old blue gradients removed, check it out....

You can find it in the usual place: http://www.aqua-mail.com/forum/index.php?board=9.0

I like the suggestions you made in the Screenshots. Bold unread count and refresh button like the holo one. Love it.

Great, glad to hear it!

Those changes are now posted as version 1.2.3.19, here on this forum, in the development builds section.

Hello,
When I longpress on a folder with unread emails, no popup appears, and I cannot mark them all as read. So the counter always displays xxxx mails counter in bold.

Can I get rid of it?

Thx

And a question that is pending somewhere... how to get rid of folders which are displayed in the tree because they had been opened once?

... tapat*lked

"Mark all read" only works with messages seen by the app, which is a limited number of recent messages (this is a mobile app, operating under constraints for data storage and traffic). If you have lots of old unread messages, please use web mail to mark them read.

Accessed folders will go away over time, and only up to three are shown at a time.
