Title: Change Password
Post by: wayzuik on November 24, 2015, 05:42:10 pm
I know this has been asked, but none of the answers work. I change a gmail password, now I need to update it on the phone. Long click on account and "account settings" does not allow changing the password. Error message is not clickable except to imap links, which are of no use. The only solution I know is to delete the account and re-add the account, which seems stupid.

I deleted the account and re-added, which also failed until I turned off wifi. Perhaps corporate firewall issue. There should be a way to update the password without having to delete the account, but I could not find a way.

Well, that sounds a little bit strange, since you are supposed to be able to change your account password in AquaMail.

Could you please try again if you are able to get into the respective "Password " field now:

> Account list view > long press on Account name > Account setup > move to "Password" to change it...

Is the setup for this account POP3, IMAP or Exchange (EWS)?

To change the account password you should (in the accounts list view) long-press on the particular account, and then choose "Account Setup".

Once you enter the password, Aquamail contacts the servers (IMAP(POP3) and SMTP in case of IMAP(POP3) connection, and Exchange server in case of EWS) to make sure that the password works.
That's why it needs to be connected. And yes, if you are on WiFi where your firewall doesn't allow those connections, Aquamail would fail to confirm the password.

"There should be a way to update the password without having to delete the account, "

There is -- long press -> account setup and you'll see it.

Now, unless this is a Gmail account using OAUTH where you don't have to enter the password at all.

And then I have to assume that your corporate firewall blocks access to Google's OAUTH servers. I'm sure they have a good reason for it :)

I have the same problem. I have the paid upgraded app. Today I had to change my account password. I did follow the directions and changed the password and saved it and now get a Red triangle in the upper left corner of the inbox under accounts. It is not a google account. It is a pop account. In the past I have had to delete the accounts but if that is correct I am very disappointed, that to change a password I have to wipe out everything.

I see it reaching out to the servers and yes I am connected, but can't get new emails and still have the red triangle in the upper left corner.
What am I missing if anything?

Hi Mark,
Please try again setting your (new) password... without having to delete the account of course  8)

> Account list view > long press on Account name > Account setup > go to "the field Password" to change it > press "NEXT" (you should see a window "Checking..." > press "SAVE"

You do not have to delete / add back the account in AquaMail just to change the password.

Run the app.

You'll see a (similar) error message, in red, below the account, on the app's main screen (account list) -- it will take you to Account Setup screen for that account.

Enter your new password and press Next to validate and save.

Or as @mikeone wrote, another way to get to "account setup" is to long press the account (same place, app's main screen, account list) -- then choose Account setup from the popup.

Kostya and Mike

OK I did it a few times and finally got some mail. I did find how to turn off the red triangle.
Not sure it is working quite right yet but will give it time and will be back if it is not.

I am impressed with both Mike's and your quick response

Thanks

Mark
