Title: Connection Error when Verizon Network
Post by: mbon on June 19, 2013, 11:15:18 am
Hi:  I'm hoping someone else has seen/resolved this issue.  for an email account I have to configure manually both in bound and out bound connections work fine on Wi-Fi.  However when I turn Wi-Fi off Aquamail cannot connect and shows errors on both inbound imap and outbound SMTP connections.  Note that I'm not changing any settings on the client.  could it be Verizon has started blocking ports 143 and 2525?  Ideas?

Yes some block certain ports. Which email provider do you have? Most email provider offer alternative ports as they are aware that some common ports are blocked for what ever reason. 2525? Strange port for IMAP.

143 is unsecured IMAP, you could try 993 with SSL.

2525 would be for SMTP, sending mail... Port 25 is the "legacy" port for that (again, unsecured), and is very often blocked by ISPs to prevent the spread of malware (or so they think...)

I would say, try port 465 with SSL too.

However, a lot will depend on your mail provider -- if this is your ISP's mail system, it's entirely possible that it's not accessible at all when you're not connected to their network (using home WiFi).

This would be a really strange setup, but I've seen it.

Finally, try the latest dev build - it has a way under account setup to specify different outgoing mail server settings when on WiFi.
